Book Haul: July 2023

Advertisements

It feels like forever since I last did a haul post, but it’s actually been less than a month. I’ve brought quite a few books on my Kindle this month, all only 99p each, so many that I’m only going to talk about the few I’m most excited about. We’d be here all day otherwise.

Girl (In Real Life) by Tamsin Winter

I requested this book on Netgalley back in 2021 but didn’t get it (sad) however, it was only 99p this month so I definitely had to buy it. I weirdly love the influx of influencer books we’ve seen over the past two years and this will be my third one so let’s see how good it is.

Synopsis: What’s it like to grow up online and have every tantrum, every spot – even your first period – broadcast to hundreds of thousands of followers?

Most parents try to limit their kids’ online exposure. But not Eva’s. Her parents run a hugely successful YouTube channel, and Eva is the star of the show. But Eva is getting sick of being made to pose in stupid mum-and-daughter matching outfits for sponsored posts. The freebies aren’t worth the teasing at school. And when an intensely humiliating “period party” post goes viral, Eva is outraged. She’s going to find a way to stop the channel, even if she has to sabotage it herself.

Change of Heart by Clare Lydon

I wont lie, I bought this because of the cover. I’m a sucker for this type of cover on a romance book. Hopefully this won’t come back to bite me as this could be terrible. Let’s hope not.

Synopsis: What happens when you fake it, make it, then break it?
When Erin Stewart hires a fake date for her parents’ anniversary party, she gets more than she bargained for. First, she snags Steph Mitchell, a professional actor with a side order of drop-dead gorgeous. Second, she runs into a brick wall of family tension. Deep breaths; it’s only five days. Plus, with Steph’s help, she can totally get through it, right?

Only, Erin doesn’t expect the fake romance with the charming Steph to feel so incredibly real. She also doesn’t predict their sizzling attraction will spiral out of control, with dizzying consequences for everyone. Is Steph Erin’s destiny, or will she be her downfall?

Fake Dates and Mooncakes by Sher Lee

If you couldn’t tell by now, I’m on a real romance hype. Fantasy just isn’t doing it for me right now and the last one I tried to read put me in a slump. Anyway, I adore the title of this book and I love fake dating books, so perfect if you ask me.

Synopsis: Dylan Tang wants to win a Mid-Autumn Festival mooncake-making competition for teen chefs—in memory of his mom, and to bring much-needed publicity to his aunt’s struggling Chinese takeout in Brooklyn.

Enter Theo Somers: charming, wealthy, with a smile that makes Dylan’s stomach do backflips. AKA a distraction. Their worlds are sun-and-moon apart, but Theo keeps showing up. He even convinces Dylan to be his fake date at a family wedding in the Hamptons.

In Theo’s glittering world of pomp, privilege, and crazy rich drama, their romance is supposed to be just pretend . . . but Dylan finds himself falling for Theo. For real. Then Theo’s relatives reveal their true colors—but with the mooncake contest looming, Dylan can’t risk being sidetracked by rich-people problems. Can Dylan save his family’s business and follow his heart—or will he fail to do both?

Practice Makes Perfect by Sarah Adams

I did a classic and got the second book without realising it’s a series. I think it’s a series of standalones so it’s fine. We shall find out when I start reading it.

Synopsis: Annie Walker is on a quest to find her perfect match-someone who nicely compliments her happy, quiet life running her flower shop in Rome, Kentucky. Unfortunately, she worries her goal might be too far out of reach when she overhears her date saying she is “sounbelievably boring.” Is it too late to become flirtatious and fun like the leading ladies in her favorite romance movies? Maybe she only needs a little practice…and Annie has the perfect person in mind to become her tutor: Will Griffin.

Will–the flirtatious, tattooed, and absolutely gorgeous bodyguard–is temporarily back in Rome, providing security for Amelia Rose as excitement grows for her upcoming marriage to Noah Walker. He has one personal objective during his time in town: stay away from Annie Walker. But no sooner than he gets settled, Will soon finds himself not only breaking his rule, but tasked with far more than simply providing security.

Will wants no part in changing the sweet and lovely Annie, but he can’t bring himself to say no to her request, so he officially agrees to teach her how to be the next leading lady of Rome, Kentucky, and find the love of her life-even if he doesn’t believe in love himself. Between faking a relationship so the meddling town doesn’t catch on to what’s really happening on their practice dates, and tutoring lessons that convince Annie to add passion to her list of must-haves in a mate, it doesn’t take long for the lines of their friendship to blur…
