Book Haul: July 2024

Advertisements

As we all know by now, I rarely buy books at full price. I’m a huge fan of the Kindle monthly deals and sadly during July there weren’t too many books I was interested in. I also had an extremely expensive month as my new flat needed a lot more work doing to it than expected (we thought we’d just need to buy new furniture, not rip out a condemned fireplace being held together by tape and come up with a quick fix) so I’m all spent out.

The Rule Book by Sarah Adams

I’m loving Sarah Adams’s books at the moment, so when this came up at 99p, I knew I had to buy this. Apparently this one is a little spicier than her other books so I’m definitely intrigued.

Nora Mackenzie’s entire career lies in the hands of famous NFL tight end Derek Pender, who happens to be her extremely hot college ex-boyfriend. Nora didn’t end things as gracefully as she could have back then, and now it has come back to haunt her. Derek is her first client as an official full-time sports agent, and he’s holding a grudge.

Derek has set his sights on a little friendly revenge. If Nora Mackenzie, the first girl to ever break his heart, wants to be his agent, oh, he’ll let her be his agent. The plan is simple: make Nora’s life absolutely miserable. But if Derek knows anything about the woman he once loved—she won’t quit easily.

Instead of giving in, Nora starts a scheme of her own. But then a wild night in Vegas leads to Nora and Derek in bed the next morning married. With their rule book out the window, could this new relationship save their careers and spark the romance of a lifetime?

This Time It’s Real by Ann Liang

We all know the drill by now, I see a fake dating book, I buy it. This one sounds super cute and interesting. It’s also a new author that I’ve never read before, so I’m excited to check it out.

When seventeen-year-old Eliza Lin’s essay about meeting the love of her life unexpectedly goes viral, her entire life changes overnight. Now she has the approval of her classmates at her new international school in Beijing, a career-launching internship opportunity at her favourite magazine…and a massive secret to keep.

Eliza made her essay up. She’s never been in a relationship before, let alone in love. All good writing is lying, right?

Desperate to hide the truth, Eliza strikes a deal with the famous actor in her class, the charming but aloof Caz Song. She’ll help him write his college applications if he poses as her boyfriend. Caz is a dream boyfriend — he passes handwritten notes to her in class, makes her little sister laugh, and takes her out on motorcycle rides to the best snack stalls around the city.

But when her relationship with Caz starts feeling a little too convincing, all of Eliza’s carefully laid plans are threatened. Can she still follow her dreams if it means breaking her own heart?

I Wish You Would by Eva Des Lauriers

The cover is absolutely what drew my attention to this book, but I’ve learnt my lesson from doing this, so I read the synopsis and this sounds great. I love a good friends to enemies to friends to lovers book (which sounds very convoluted) and this looks like it will tick all of those boxes.

It’s Senior Sunrise, the epic overnight at the beach that kicks off senior year. But for Natalia and Ethan, it’s the first time seeing each other after what happened at junior prom―when they almost crossed the line from best friends to something more and ruined everything. After ghosting each other all summer, Natalia is desperate to pretend she doesn’t care and Ethan is desperate to fix his mistake.

When the senior class carries out their tradition of writing private letters to themselves―what they wish they would do this year if they were braver―Natalia pours her heart out. So does Ethan. So does everyone in their entire class. But in Natalia’s panicked attempt to retrieve her heartfelt confession, the wind scatters seven of the notes across the beach. Now, Ethan and Natalia are forced to work together to find the lost letters before any secrets are revealed―especially their own.

Seven private confessions. Seven time bombs loose for anyone to find. And one last chance before the sun rises for these two to fall in love.
