I always expect December to be the month when I buy or receive the most books, but that’s never the case. I never receive books as presents as no one has the time to figure out which books I already own. I’m also more of an ebook person these days, which is one of the biggest shocks of adulthood for me.
There were a few good books on sale throughout the month but the ones included in this post are the only ones I bought.
Wisteria by Adalyn Grace
I don’t often read new purchases so quickly but I’m desperate to continue this series. I’ve loved both books so far and I don’t want to leave such a huge gap this time.
I’m not sure if this is the final book. I don’t really want to know before reading. I’m excited to spend more time with Blythe but I do hope we get a decent amount of time with Signa and Death. I finally like them as a romantic pairing.
Synopsis: Blythe Hawthorn has never let anyone tell her what to do . . . and she’s not about to start now.
Headstrong and passionate, she won’t be ruled by society, or by her overprotective father, and certainly not by the man she’s bound herself to, no matter how insufferable he is. She’s determined to be a thorn in his side for the rest of her days, even as he ensues that her life in his palace is anything but the decadent fairytale she imagined.
But as Blythe discovers a new side of herself linked to his past, she’ll have to decide if she’s willing to let an unexpected spark ignite . . . and discover the real truth about who she is inside.
The Bad Ones by Melissa Albert
I loved the The Hazelwood series by Melissa Albert so I’m excited to see a new release from her. I wouldn’t say she’s an autobuy author just yet, let’s see how good The Bad Ones is first, however, both of her previous books were solid.
Synopsis: Goddess, goddess, count to five
In the morning, who’s alive?
In the course of a single winter’s night, four people vanish without a trace across a small town.
Nora’s estranged best friend, Becca, is one of the lost. As Nora tries to untangle the truth of Becca’s disappearance, she discovers a darkness in her town’s past, as well as a string of coded messages Becca left for her to unravel. These clues lead Nora to a piece of local folklore: a legendary goddess of forgotten origins who played a role in Nora and Becca’s own childhood games…
Death at Morning House by Maureen Johnson
I’m yet to read a Maureen Johnson book which seems a little crazy considering how much I love a thriller these days. I haven’t heard a lot about her books but Amazon and Goodreads do recommend them to me a lot. I think I’ve had Truly Devious on my ‘to read’ shelf since 2019 so it’s about time I finally buy one of her books.
Synopsis: The fire wasn’t Marlowe Wexler’s fault. Dates should be hot, but not hot enough to warrant literal firefighters. Akilah, the girl Marlowe has been in love with for years, will never go out with her again. No one dates an accidental arsonist.
With her house-sitting career up in flames, it seems the universe owes Marlowe a new summer job, and that’s how she ends up at Morning House, a mansion built on an island in the 1920s and abandoned shortly thereafter. It’s easy enough, giving tours. Low risk of fire. High chance of getting bored talking about stained glass and nut cutlets and Prohibition.
Oh, and the deaths. Did anyone mention the deaths?
The Off-Limits Rule by Sarah Adams
Sarah Adams has become an autobuy author for me. I’ve only read two of her books but one of those was a five star read and the other a solid four, so I feel like that’s justified. I also rarely pay more than £2.99 for a Kindle book (this one was only 99p) so even if I don’t enjoy it, I haven’t wasted a lot of money.
This is a classic tale of dating your brother’s best friend so it should have a great amount of angst, pining and whatnot. Not sure when I’ll get around to this as I have much older books sitting on my Kindle waiting to be read, but I am looking forward to it.
Synopsis: I have found rock bottom. It’s here, moving in with my older brother because I’m too broke to afford to live on my own. But that’s okay because we’ve always been close and I think I’m going to have fun living with him again.
That is until I meet Cooper…
Turns out, my brother has very strong opinions on the idea of me dating his best friend and is dead set against it. According to him, Cooper is everything I should stay away from: flirtatious, adventurous, non-committal, and freaking hot. (I added that last part because I feel like you need the whole picture.) My brother is right, though. I should stay away from Cooper James and his pretty blue eyes. He’s the opposite of what I need right now.
Nah—Who am I kidding? I’m going for him.
