Book Haul: October 2026

Advertisements

When it comes to writing my monthly book hauls I usually have to pick and choose my favourites to talk about. Not this month. The Kindle book deals have been pretty slim pickings and I’ve been trying to cut down on how many books I buy. My current rule is only buying books from my wishlist.

Usually my October haul posts are a lot longer as it’s my birthday month, but my family won’t buy me books as they don’t know what I already have, and as I’m going to mention in this post, I have no shelf space for physical books.

The Raven Boys: The Graphic Novel by Stephanie Williams, Maggie Stiefvater & Sas Milledge

I received both The Raven Boys and The Dream Thieves graphic novels as birthday gifts and they are stunning. I’ve been itching to re-read the series, but put off slightly by how long it would take so these have turned up in my life at the perfect time.

I’m not sure if I’ve ever read a graphic novel adaptation of a book I love so I’m really excited to read these. I just need to find room on my bookshelves to store them now – I’ve completely ran out of room so I may need to get rid of some books I no longer want.

Synopsis: Blue Sargent comes from a family of psychics. Only, she has never had the same clairvoyant abilities they had and has always felt too ordinary within the magic that surrounded her. Enter Gansey, a rich student from Aglionby, the town’s all-boys private school teeming with wealth, privilege, and trouble. Blue’s always made it a point to stay away from its students, the Raven Boys.

But when Gansey asks her to join him and three other Raven Boys on his quest to find a long-forgotten Welsh king rumored to be sleeping beneath the mountains of their quiet Virginia town, Blue doesn’t hesitate. She jumps at the chance to finally be a part of something real and full of magic, a world she was born into yet one that always stood just out of reach. Soon enough, she’s swept into a strange and shifting world woven into theirs, one far more dangerous than anything they could have dreamt up.

Now reimagined as a stunning full-color graphic novel adapted by Stephanie Williams and illustrated by Sas Milledge, The Raven Boys unravels a thrilling plot around a cast of characters impossible to forget.

Big Bad Wolf by Laurie Gilmore

Like most people, I’ve bought Laurie Gilmore’s paranormal debut this month. I love the Dream Harbor series so I’m really intrigued to see what this is like. I’ve seen a lot of mixed reviews so far, and by reviews I mean social media posts, but that’s to be expected when an author ventures into a different genre.

If this is a legit shifter romance with all that comes with that (if you know, you know) that will be very interesting indeed. This will also make the mixed reviews make more sense. If you’re a pure contemporary romance reader a shifter romance would be very intense.

I have no idea when I’ll actually get around to reading this as I haven’t even picked up The Daisy Chain Flower Shop yet.

Synopsis: The darker the woods, the bigger the secrets…

Ruby Bellerose lives on the edge of the woods, in a cottage more akin to a fairy tale than modern day life. Her love life is basically non-existent, and she keeps away from the whispered gossip that travels through Maple Hollow.

Until a chance encounter with Rafe.

As mysterious as he is brooding, Ruby is drawn to the woodsman, curious to find out more about the stranger who lives deep within the woods.

But Rafe is hiding a secret. And with something lurking in the shadowy forest, will Ruby find that Rafe is her knight in shining armor or something altogether more dangerous…

Grim Tidings by B.K. Borison

I feel like I’ve talked about this book quite a lot recently, but it is one I’m quite excited for. I’d love to pick it up before the autumn season is over but with the rate at which I’m getting through books at the moment, that’s not looking likely. Plus, I feel like this would be a good book to read and review for next spooky season.

I loved book one (review coming in December) so I’m looking forward to reading this one. I’ve only read a couple of B.K. Borison’s books but I do own a few of them at this point.

Synopsis: Darcy Moore is tired of death. Which would be fine and good … if she wasn’t a Grim Reaper. Determined to outrun her designation as the villain, Darcy decides she won’t be dragging her next assignment to the underworld. She’ll be saving him instead.

Unfortunately for Darcy, there’s a complication in her plan. Guardian Angel Gabriel Aetos doesn’t tolerate threats to his little corner of the world, and a Grim Reaper showing up at his bar is as deadly as it gets. But when he realizes Darcy is not as she seems, Gabriel must decide if he can trust his growing feelings or hold on to his long-standing grudge.

But magic doesn’t come without consequences. And the Department of Hauntings & Spirits will eventually come calling for their missing Reaper.

A spooky yet simmering enemies-to-lovers tale to keep you warm this fall.
