Book Haul: September 2024

It’s definitely a little early to be talking about the books I’ve bought this month, however, I know I’m not going to buy anymore as I did go a little over the top with the Kindle daily deals. For that reason, this month I’m just going to talk about the books I’m most excited about rather than every single one I’ve bought.

The [Fake] Dating Game by Timothy Janovsky

This has been on my radar for quite some time and it sounds right up my street. We all know I love a fake dating book and this one looks really fun. I’m hoping it lives up to expectations as I’ve been let down a lot lately.

Synopsis: Ready. Set. Faux .

Holden James picked the worst time to have a meltdown. His chance to audition for his favorite game show, Madcap Market , should have been a moment of triumph—a glorious, loving homage to his adored mom, who died six years ago. Instead, he’s destroying the minibar in a grim Los Angeles hotel room…recently dumped, partnerless and sliding into a crushing black hole of anguish.

But the hotel service in abject misery is sublime. It even comes with an unfairly fit and sexy (smart-ass) concierge who arrives at the door with pizza, Monopoly and deliciously distracting forearms.

All Holden knows about Leo Min is that he’s beautiful and unexpectedly sympathetic, and the chemistry between them is beyond . Maybe it’s even enough to convince everyone, including the show’s casting directors, that they’re a real couple. All they’d have to do is crush the competition, win the huge cash prize and all of Holden’s problems—his broken heart, his buried grief, his complete lack of money and direction—will be fixed.

Of course, reality doesn’t quite work out that way. But love is an entirely different game…

Morbidly Yours by Ivy Fairbanks

This looks like it would be a good October read. I don’t think it’s necessarily a Halloween book but the title is a perfect fit for the spooky season. Whether or not I actually get around to this next month is another story, but here’s to hoping.

Synopsis: Callum Flannelly would rather dive into an open grave than take a stranger to dinner and a movie. But he can only inherit the family undertaking business and carry on their legacy under one condition: He must marry before his 35th birthday. So it’s out of the mortuary and into the dating scene.

Lark Thompson would rather get crushed by a falling anvil than stay next to a funeral home during her stay in Galway, Ireland. The vivacious American cartoon creator and animator came here to embrace life, not be reminded of losing her husband.

When Lark learns of Callum’s dilemma and aversion to marrying out of necessity rather than love, she agrees to help the introverted mortician. Although sworn off love herself, she is optimistic that Callum can find The One and secure his inheritance.

But as the dating project progresses and their friendship grows, so does a mutual attraction. The more time she spends with serious, sarcastic Callum, the more she dreads finding him a match. And the more disastrous dates he endures, the more he dreads Lark’s imminent return to the states.

If they think it’s possible to ignore their connection, they’re dead wrong.

The Cinnamon Bun Bookstore by Laurie Gilmore

I wasn’t a huge fan of the first book in this ‘series’ but I’m always willing to give something a second chance. Also the titles of these books are super cute.

My review of The Pumpkin Spice Café really blew up recently, which was completely unexpected and also slightly irrelevant to this post but I thought it was an interesting fact to mention.

Synopsis: When a secret message turns up hidden in a book in the Cinnamon Bun Bookstore, Hazel can’t understand it. As more secret codes appear between the pages, she decides to follow the trail of clues… she just need someone to help her out.

Gorgeous and outgoing fisherman, Noah, is always up for an adventure. And a scavenger hunt sounds like a lot of fun. Even better that the cute bookseller he’s been crushing on for months is the one who wants his help!

Hazel didn’t go looking for romance, but as the treasure hunt leads her and Noah around Dream Harbor, their undeniable chemistry might be just as hot as the fresh-out-of-the-oven cinnamon buns the bookstore sells…
