Synopsis:
The moment we meet, it’s all downhill.
My job is providing happiness and smiles at Honeywood Fun Park, and Emory Dawson is the frown our park didn’t ask for.
When our star roller coaster malfunctions with me on board, the manufacturer’s heir and lead engineer, Emory, vows to renovate the attraction. So instead of having a fun summer season as Marketing Manager for Honeywood, I’m now saddled with playing host.
Wonderful.
Emory is the opposite of a good time. He’s the grump that won’t stop grumping, and our arguments escalate quicker than my heart rate after a roller coaster’s fall.
He knows I can see right through his broody gaze and big ideas. Repairing the coaster? More like overhauling his own company’s reputation, regardless of whether it helps our local theme park.
But when our firm handshakes start lingering too long, or when his muscled thighs rest against mine under the table, I’m thrown for a loop.
Most roller coasters are fun, but I’d like to get off this emotional one, please.
Review:
All Downhill With You was a pretty fun read. This doesn’t sound like the best advertisement for a book, but I didn’t make any notes while reading this. Also, for some reason, I’ve waited over a week to write the review – silly me.
A romance book set at a theme park sounded like a good time and it was, mostly. There are a couple of areas of this book that I didn’t really enjoy. One of them being the ‘adult content’. Some of it was fine, but carrying out these acts in public at a family-friendly theme park did not sit right with me. Yes, this is fiction so I shouldn’t really care, but there’s something about getting each other off on a ride for kids that feels creepy to me. Also, not realising that there are cameras present that will catch you doing this is stupid. Especially if you’ve worked at said theme park for ten years.
The premise of this book is very interesting. A woman gets seriously injured by a rollercoaster, she sues the company that made it and then falls for the guy who engineered it. Not a plotline I’ve ever heard of before, but it was pretty good if not a little instalovey.
The romance was the best part, as you’d expect from a contemporary romance. I loved the banter between Lorelai and Emory when they ‘hated’ each other. There’s something about sarky comments that are slightly flirtatious that I absolutely love.
You get the set up for the next book during All Downhill With You and honestly, I only read this one because I’m more interested in the second book. I will be giving that a read at some point in the future.
Overall All Downhill With You is a fairly lighthearted romance with a smidge of enemies to lovers. Which I personally don’t believe exists in contemporary media. There’s a lot of great banter between the characters and the theme park made for an interesting setting.
