Book Review: All Downhill With You by Julie Olivia

Synopsis:

The moment we meet, itโ€™s all downhill.

My job is providing happiness and smiles at Honeywood Fun Park, and Emory Dawson is the frown our park didnโ€™t ask for.

When our star roller coaster malfunctions with me on board, the manufacturerโ€™s heir and lead engineer, Emory, vows to renovate the attraction. So instead of having a fun summer season as Marketing Manager for Honeywood, Iโ€™m now saddled with playing host.

Wonderful.

Emory is the opposite of a good time. Heโ€™s the grump that wonโ€™t stop grumping, and our arguments escalate quicker than my heart rate after a roller coasterโ€™s fall.

He knows I can see right through his broody gaze and big ideas. Repairing the coaster? More like overhauling his own companyโ€™s reputation, regardless of whether it helps our local theme park.

But when our firm handshakes start lingering too long, or when his muscled thighs rest against mine under the table, Iโ€™m thrown for a loop.

Most roller coasters are fun, but Iโ€™d like to get off this emotional one, please.

Review:

All Downhill With You was a pretty fun read. This doesnโ€™t sound like the best advertisement for a book, but I didnโ€™t make any notes while reading this. Also, for some reason, Iโ€™ve waited over a week to write the review – silly me.

A romance book set at a theme park sounded like a good time and it was, mostly. There are a couple of areas of this book that I didnโ€™t really enjoy. One of them being the โ€˜adult contentโ€™. Some of it was fine, but carrying out these acts in public at a family-friendly theme park did not sit right with me. Yes, this is fiction so I shouldnโ€™t really care, but thereโ€™s something about getting each other off on a ride for kids that feels creepy to me. Also, not realising that there are cameras present that will catch you doing this is stupid. Especially if youโ€™ve worked at said theme park for ten years.

The premise of this book is very interesting. A woman gets seriously injured by a rollercoaster, she sues the company that made it and then falls for the guy who engineered it. Not a plotline Iโ€™ve ever heard of before, but it was pretty good if not a little instalovey.

The romance was the best part, as youโ€™d expect from a contemporary romance. I loved the banter between Lorelai and Emory when they โ€˜hatedโ€™ each other. Thereโ€™s something about sarky comments that are slightly flirtatious that I absolutely love.

You get the set up for the next book during All Downhill With You and honestly, I only read this one because Iโ€™m more interested in the second book. I will be giving that a read at some point in the future.

Overall All Downhill With You is a fairly lighthearted romance with a smidge of enemies to lovers. Which I personally donโ€™t believe exists in contemporary media. Thereโ€™s a lot of great banter between the characters and the theme park made for an interesting setting.

Rating: 3 out of 5.
