Review:

Bountiful Magic is the sixth book in this series and Iโ€™m almost contemplating making it my last. I usually get through each instalment of this series in just a few days but it took me almost a week to finish this. Which is pretty long considering itโ€™s just over 300 pages long. Iโ€™d say this has impacted my rating as Iโ€™d probably give this three stars otherwise.

Thankfully, the dialogue seemed much less all over the place and disjointed in this instalment. The last book had me very worried about the quality of the rest of the series but Bountiful Magic was a decent instalment. Definitely not my favourite but it was much better than the previous instalment, which was my lowest rated of the series so far.

It feels like the โ€˜mysteryโ€™ part of the series has fizzled out a little bit. The original mystery of finding out who killed Granny Thorn was great but the hinting at the vampire, (whose name I canโ€™t currently remember) Rosemary trapped in one of the first instalments, coming back with a big evil plot is getting stale. Itโ€™s been hinted at for three books now but nothing has happened. The actual mystery part of this book was completely lacklustre. It could have been really cool. The Morrigan in particular could have caused a lot of chaos but nothing really happened.

Iโ€™m also a little tired of Rosemaryโ€™s commitment issues. She clearly likes Burk a lot but sheโ€™s being weird about seeing him so often. You live in and own a shop in a small town. The chances of seeing each other every day is likely. Hopefully, their relationship stops being weird soon.

I enjoyed the chapters spent in Faerie. It felt like there was real danger and the dynamics of the characters trying to survive together was great. I do feel like Finnigan changed his personality too quickly though. But I did like his storyline. I wonโ€™t talk about it because itโ€™s a huge spoiler.

Iโ€™m genuinely surprised how highly rated this entire series is on Goodreads. So far every book has been three and a half stars or below for me. Maybe cosy mysteries arenโ€™t for me. I need more drama and action. Sadly, there isnโ€™t actually a lot of magic in these books. Which is crazy considering the word magic is used in every single book title.

I may continue this series but only because I have a Kindle Unlimited subscription right now. Iโ€™ll give it one more book before fully deciding, but there are only three more books currently published in the Myrtlewood Mysteries series and theyโ€™re all fairly short.

Rating: 2.5 out of 5.
