Review:
Celestial Magic has been my favourite instalment of the Mrytlewood Mysteries so far. I feel like I flew through this book and the summer vibes were incredible – especially as I’m in the rainy UK right now.
I’m sure I’ve mentioned this before but using Americanisms in a book set in the UK really irks me. I know that’s such a small thing to complain about but I keep forgetting this series is not set in the US.
Athena shows a lot of character progression in this book and is moving on from a bratty teenager to a young adult witch. She’s really finding her place now with magic and it’s reflecting well on her personality. There are definitely still some problems with the mother-daughter dynamic, but I’m sure these will work themselves out in time.
I’m not sure why it has taken me so long to realise but Ferg is Kirk from Gilmore Girls. He has a different job in each book and he says a lot of out of pocket things. I feel silly for only just realising this, but it’s now glaringly obvious.
I love that each book is focused on a different witchy festival in the town and the summer solstice market was so fun. Although I wish more time was spent having the characters explore the different stalls. This might have made the book too long and repetitive, so I’m fine with that not happening.
Romance is in the air in Celestial Magic. Finally! I’ve been wishing for romance since book two and we are actually getting somewhere now, with multiple characters. I hope these relationships continue to flourish and make this a truly cosy mystery series.
I’m in this for the long haul now, I will complete the Mrytlewood Mysteries series. Well, unless something goes horribly wrong. I won’t be reading any more of them over the next couple of months as I’m taking a break from my Kindle Unlimited subscription, but the next instalment will probably be my first read when I get it again.
