Review:
Well it’s safe to say I enjoyed the book a whole lot more than the TV show. What is even that adaptation? It’s not even remotely similar. Both are pretty middle of the road really, this book isn’t a masterpiece but the characters are far more likable.
I picked up Finding Her Edge as an absolute heat of the moment situation. My Kindle Unlimited subscription was coming to an end and when it popped up, I thought ‘why not?’. I was planning to check out the show at some point so why not read the book beforehand. I’m not sure if I regret that now because the book gave me expectations for the show and as I mentioned above, they’re not similar in the slightest.
I love figure skating, it’s something I’ve loved since I was a kid, I even had lessons for a while. My dream was to be a figure skater, obviously that didn’t happen, so now I live vicariously through books and the Winter Olympics. So much of this book reminded me of my childhood and I like it for that very reason – not that I was in a love triangle with skating partners.
The book definitely tries to make you like Freddie more. I didn’t have an opinion about the ‘love triangle’ . I liked both Brayden and Freddie (unlike the show, they made them both pretty unlikable characters). Brayden has been done very dirty here though. He’s not the bad boy people think he is and he’s such a great partner to Adriana. The fact that he was so nice about Adriana quite literally breaking his heart (it’s not her responsibility to feel the same, I get that but he seemed like the better choice to me) and instantly getting with Freddie, showed maturity that no other character did. Justice for Brayden.
Also, I’m not a fan of fake dating books that don’t end with the fake dating characters in a relationship. That’s kinda the whole point of them – the show also did this very badly and what makes that worse is that Adriana and Brayden have a legit relationship in it.
This is such an all over the place review but there’s not really a whole lot of plot to comment on. I liked the vibes of Finding Her Edge but the more I think about it, the more disappointed I feel. I’m going to give it a very middle of the road three stars.
