Synopsis:

Honeybites is book two in the Honeybloods series of novellas by I.S. Belle.

Honey and Sadie have a plan: get back home and take senior year by storm. Out and proud girlfriends, secret vampires. They can rock this new undead life if they stick together. Right?

But the past doesn’t die easily. A revealing video from a true crime YouTuber forces the girls to come up with a new plan: say they were home all summer and avoid each other in the hallways until everything blows over.

Their plan to lie low is quickly ruined when the true crime YouTuber shows up in town, asking about a murdered indie band and trailing unwelcome threats in her wake. Hunters, ex-boyfriends, frenemies and raging bloodlust – senior year is kicking off with a snarl.

Review:

After reading book one a couple of months ago, I was really looking forward to continuing this series. Unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy Honeybites as much as book one. I still really love Honey and Sadie, I think they’re both great characters, but there was something seriously off with this instalment.

Firstly, the pacing is all over the place. I’m still not sure what point we’re at in the story when this book starts. I assumed straight after the first one but I’m not actually sure. It felt like book one was constantly moving forward but at a rate that made sense. Honeybites felt like being stuck in treacle. Hardly any character or story progression and the resolution came round way too easily. It felt like they weren’t ever in real danger of being found out and I hate the horror and gore from the first book all but disappeared.

There were definitely moments I enjoyed. The comedy is pretty good and I do like a lot of the characters. However, I think this part of the story would have benefitted from either being part of book one or potentially book three. I haven’t checked that one out yet though so maybe it will stand on its own.

Rating: 3 out of 5.
