Book Review: Honeycraves by I.S. Belle

Synopsis:

What better way to celebrate spring break than another romantic murder road trip?

The search for Honey’s sire has finally heated up again, and Sadie and Honey have a foolproof track that sucker down so Honey can kill him and go back to her normal human life.

But what about Sadie? Can she follow Honey to college after senior year ends, or is she too dangerous to keep around?

Sadie is just as hungry as the day Honey turned her. Honey is keeping secrets. And their road trip is about to get an unwelcome tag-along who could change everything…

Review:

Honeycraves is the third and possibly final instalment of the Honeyblood series and it was an okay read. There isn’t anything particularly special about it but it is fun and I do like the characters.

I did enjoy the entire Honeybites series, but the three novellas should have been just one book. The first instalment stands well on its own and I do think Honeycraves was almost on that level, but the whole story felt extremely rushed. I would have loved more of what happens after the road trip and just more of the road trip in general. There was a lot more to be explored in Honeycraves that would have made this a real solid read. Unfortunately, this was the shortest of the series so it left a lot to be desired.

This really did feel like I took a short break from reading the second book and then jumped back into it again. Does that make sense? Obviously this is a continuation, but I mean it felt like the exact same book. Sadie is still struggling with her hunger and this is something that doesn’t change throughout both books. I almost forgot that Sadie became a vampire at the end of book one.

The abilities of the vampires also got a little boring. I found them really fun at first as it was a mix of modern day media and old folklore. But it felt like they were just going through the motions rather than taking advantage of their cool powers.

I think if you’re reading books purely for enjoyment, not to analyse them, you’ll really enjoy the entire Honeybloods series. They’re highly entertaining and the characters are fairly interesting. The dialogue can be a little cringeworthy at times though.

Rating: 2.5 out of 5.
