Games That Should Have Adaptations #3

Shadow of The Colossus

Game synopsis: The game focuses on a young man, known only to the audience as Wander (or “the Wanderer”), who is tasked with finding and killing sixteen colossi that reside in a desolate expanse of land, in the hopes of resurrecting a sacrificed girl named Mono.

Now here is a game with impressive visuals – when I say this I mean the art direction rather than the quality of the graphics. I first fell in love with this game when the original version came out and then the remake happened and it looked even more impressive. The fact that the world of this game is so barren and yet I think it has incredible art direction says a lot. I love a game with strong art direction – what’s the point otherwise?

I’d love to say that live action would be a really cool format to see this is in as whenever I think about seeing really good CGI Colossus’ I quite literally get chills, however, this would definitely work better as an animation. I suppose it would be pretty similar to Attack on Titan, but also absolutely nothing like it. More that they both have ‘titans’.

Although there isn’t very much dialogue in this game I think they could adapt it well. I mean look at the first season of The Witcher; Geralt doesn’t speak that often and it still worked. That might not be the same here as there are technically like four characters in Shadow of The Colossus but it’s all about the vibes right?

Also, they’d be able to develop the characters and story, adding in actual voice lines and you just know if this ever happened, they’d give Wander a comedic companion. Which would either make or break it. Going back to The Witcher, I adore Jaskier. I know he’s not everyone’s cup of tea but season one of that show is still so incredible and special to me.

Even after writing this post, Shadow of the Colossus feels like a rogue choice, but it’s a game from my childhood and nostalgia sells. I’m sure at least a few people feel the same.
