Graphic Novel Review: The Tea Dragon Society by Kay O’Neill

Synopsis:ย

From the award-winning author of Princess Princess Ever After comes The Tea Dragon Society, a charming all-ages book that follows the story of Greta, a blacksmith apprentice, and the people she meets as she becomes entwined in the enchanting world of tea dragons.

After discovering a lost tea dragon in the marketplace, Greta learns about the dying art form of tea dragon care-taking from the kind tea shop owners, Hesekiel and Erik. As she befriends them and their shy ward, Minette, Greta sees how the craft enriches their livesโ€”and eventually her own.

Review:

I have found my new all-time favourite art style, I am quite literally obsessed. Iโ€™ve never seen a more beautiful graphic novel, The Tea Dragon Society is absolutely stunning.

There wasnโ€™t much of a story to this, but that really didnโ€™t bother me. I picked this up for cute vibes and it gave me exactly that. There was a bit of background on a few characters and they sounded really interesting so it would have been nice to go into more depth, but that may happen in later installments. I donโ€™t know anything about the series so Iโ€™m sure where this will go but I am crazy excited to get my hands on the next one.

The settings and character designs were incredible and every single page was beautiful. Each time I turned the page I thought โ€˜this would make a great wallpaper for my phoneโ€™ and thatโ€™s pretty high praise. I was constantly left in awe at the talent of Kay Oโ€™Neill.

Once you finish the main story of The Tea Dragon Society there are around five or so pages of lore. If you know me youโ€™ll know I love lore. You get to learn about the history of the dragons, how the magical properties of the tea work, and a little summary of each type of dragon. Which are all incredibly cute.

I really cannot recommend The Tea Dragon Society enough if you are looking for a relaxing read. The story is very easy going and the illustrations are wonderful. Iโ€™m now super excited to continue reading this series but also very annoyed at myself for not picking it up sooner.

Rating: 5 out of 5.
