I had planned to write and publish this post in February, as I had just seen You Me At Six live, but I keep forgetting about this series. This is very obvious as it has been about eight months since the last one.
Cavalier Youth is my second favourite album by You Me At Six which would make you think ‘why are you writing about this one first?’ well, I don’t actually know. When I saw them in February they opened with Room to Breathe from this album, which both my boyfriend and I predicted. It was amazing, the best gig I’ve ever been to.
I have a lot of love for this album. It is a no skips and I can’t pick a favourite song. Cavalier Youth came out at a pivotal moment in my life, much like Life’s Not Out to Get You by Neck Deep and they both feel like comfort albums, if that makes sense?
I’m absolutely devastated that they are breaking up, but I actually haven’t listened to any of their albums past Night People as I wasn’t a fan of their newer releases. I am willing to give them another go now, as despite this, You Me At Six is one of my all-time favourite bands.
I’ve decided to start ranking the songs on these albums because who doesn’t love a good ranking? You’ll probably also find it more fun than my ramblings.
Ranking every song on Cavalier Youth:
- Win Some, Lose Some
- Room to Breathe
- Fresh Start Fever
- Lived a Lie
- Wild Ones
- Hope for the best
- Forgive and Forget
- Love Me Like You Used To
- Too Young to Feel This Old
- Carpe Diem
- Cold Night
- Be Who You Are
Choosing that order was not easy as over half of the tracks on this album are in my ‘faves’ playlist. I’ve also never thought about this album from an analytical standpoint. I’m quite happy with my choices though.
