A Plague Tale: Innocence – Marz

Game synopsis: “1348. The plague ravages the Kingdom of France. Amicia and her younger brother Hugo are pursued by the Inquisition through villages devastated by the disease. On their way, they will have to join forces with other children, and evade swarms of rats using fire and light. Aided only by the link that binds their fates together, they will face untold horrors in their struggle to survive. As their adventure begins… the time of innocence ends.

Follow the grim tale of young Amicia and her little brother Hugo, in a heartrending journey through the darkest hours of history. Hunted by Inquisition soldiers and surrounded by unstoppable swarms of rats, Amicia and Hugo will come to know and trust each other. As they struggle to survive against overwhelming odds, they will fight to find purpose in this brutal, unforgiving world.”

This was the playthrough by Marz I watched and I like how chill she is most of the time. Near the end of the playthough she does get quite frustrated with the game, but that’s understandable. Especially when it’s not obvious what you need to do. She also has the type of voice I could sit and listen to all day and pretty much have when watching one of her playthroughs.

The start of this playthough is also super cute as Marz shows off her pet rats. I love rats, they’re adorable.

This is going to sound so weird, but this game is stunning. I love the art direction and the graphic style is so nice. The character models aren’t great in game and the rats are a little goofy, but I love that about it. The character models look insanely good in cut scenes, they’re realistic while having some stylistic charm.

The story is so compelling and the deep emotion displayed is impressive. I’m a narrative game lover, I don’t like online multiplayer stuff, so games like this are so special to me. The whole concept is so interesting and even though the gameplay mechanics aren’t anything new, the ways in which you use them are very unique.

The boss fights in particular use really interesting mechanics and they never go how you think they will. The use of creating fires and also putting them out to defeat someone is so cool.

The most impressive part of this entire game is the voice acting. I’ve never really seen anyone praise this game for that and they really should. Both the English and French voice actors are incredible, Marz uses both in this playthrough, and I’m seriously impressed with the kid that voices Hugo.
