Best Worst character

Hating Rory was not something I did often in the earlier seasons, but my god is she a brat in this episode. She claims she’s ‘a big girl’ and doesn’t need everyone protecting her all the time, but clearly, this isn’t true.

Yes, she had a right to be annoyed about Lorelai not telling her she was seeing Max again, but she didn’t need to be so mean about it. I get that everyone constantly coddles her and that’s why her downfall hits so hard in the later seasons, but everyone on this show is emotionally stunted.

Best supporting character

I feel so bad for Lane in this episode. Rory is so horrible to her about the Dean situation. Lane had very good intentions for not telling Rory that’s working on a project with Dean, but as always Rory is being very self-centred and doesn’t see this. Poor Lane is always treated badly by Rory and she deserves better.

Favourite scenes

*I do not own the rights to any videos in this post, no copyright infringement was intended. All rights go to the production studio*

The foreshadowing in the first scene is absolutely perfect. Luke is the third guy and they do in fact end up getting married. I love this scene, it’s so fun. It’s probably one of my favourite openings.

Lauren Graham’s ability to speak at lightning speed is incredible and very impressive. I also love how Lorelai keeps making up ridiculous discounts to convince Luke to keep the stuff she got for him.

Best quotes and one liners

RORY: Okay, guy number 3 is crossing the street right now. (All three of them stare out the window.)

LUKE: Why am I looking?

LORELAI: Because it’s like a train wreck. (They see Kirk walking towards the diner.)

LORELAI: Aww, no!

RORY: Daddy!

LORELAI: Not Kirk!

RORY: Maybe he’ll buy me a pony.

MRS. KIM: You’re science partners?

LANE: Yes Mama, I invited him over to work.

MRS. KIM: Work?

LANE: On our science project.

MRS. KIM: Reproduction?

LANE: Spores, moulds and fungus.

RORY: Why would my tie be in the living room?

LORELAI: Because it’s been seeing the doily on the coffee table. I’m sorry, I did not want you to find out this way.

PARIS: You didn’t take one note. You resorting to the osmosis theory of learning?

RORY: Why do you care?

PARIS: I don’t, just making an observation.

RORY: Great, we’ll build a dome over you and jam a telescope in your head.

RICHARD: Oh, I’m still waiting for the day when my knowledge of the inner workings of a frog’s intestinal system can be applied to my work in the insurance industry.

RORY: Perhaps if you were insuring the frog.

LORELAI: I warned him. I warned him when I first met him, if he hurt her . . Ah. Maybe I could key his car.

LUKE: Or better yet, you can key Taylor’s car and tell him Dean did it.

LORELAI: Yeah. That’d be good.

LUKE: You can key Taylor’s car, tell him Dean did it and also tell him that Dean littered and walks his dog without a leash.

LORELAI: He’ll run him out of town.

Most iconic outfit

Lorelai talking about having excellent taste while wearing one of the ugliest floral shirts I have ever seen is very funny. Well actually I don’t hate the shirt paired with the salmon pink vest, but the grey trousers really push it over the edge.

Final thoughts and fun facts

Ugh, I thought the Max episodes were over, but I’m just now remembering he and Lorelai get engaged so there are many more to come. He is literally the worst. It’s so inappropriate that he talks to Rory at school about his personal life. Guy gives me major weirdo vibes.

At the beginning of the episode, Lane stops at the market on Wednesday. Dean was not there. The next day, Thursday, Rory stops at the market clearly stating it was not Wednesday. She runs away the same day (Thursday). Rory sleeps over at Emily and Richard’s house. The next day must be Friday, the day of the usual dinner. But, when Lorelai comes to pick Rory up, she states that she would see them tomorrow for dinner. They love a good continuity error on this show.

Another continuity error: When Lorelai comes to school for parent’s day, Rory’s first class of the day is English with Mr. Medina. Now, when Rory is held after class by Mr. Medina, she says she is going to miss her bus home, suggesting it is her last class of the day. This is the same school year, just a few months apart, her schedule shouldn’t have changed.
