The Best Of: Beautiful Book Covers #24

Advertisements

There’s no real introduction for this month’s cover post. This is post 27 in this series so I’m not surprised I’m running out of witty opening remarks. Give it some time and I’ll have something funny to say, but for now, it’s just the usual ‘I’m a shallow reader because I like nice covers’ joke.

Honey & Spice by Bolu Babalola

Oh look, another cover with ‘cartoony’ people. Absolutely no one is surprised by this. I know what I like and I’m not ashamed of that. These characters are stunning and I really want the outfit Kiki is wearing.

It’s not often I find myself loving a red cover because red is really not my favourite colour but it suits Honey & Spice–I can’t explain why, it just does.

Synopsis: Sweet like plantain, hot like pepper. They taste the best when together…

Sharp-tongued (and secretly soft-hearted) Kiki Banjo has just made a huge mistake. As an expert in relationship-evasion and the host of the popular student radio show Brown Sugar, she’s made it her mission to make sure the women of the African-Caribbean Society at Whitewell University do not fall into the mess of “situationships”, players, and heartbreak. But when the Queen of the Unbothered kisses Malakai Korede, the guy she just publicly denounced as “The Wastemen of Whitewell,” in front of every Blackwellian on campus, she finds her show on the brink.

They’re soon embroiled in a fake relationship to try and salvage their reputations and save their futures. Kiki has never surrendered her heart before, and a player like Malakai won’t be the one to change that, no matter how charming he is or how electric their connection feels. But surprisingly entertaining study sessions and intimate, late-night talks at old-fashioned diners force Kiki to look beyond her own presumptions. Is she ready to open herself up to something deeper?

Gwen & Art Are Not in Love by Lex Croucher

I adore this cover, but I’ve just found out there’s a pink version and I’m a little sad I don’t have that one. The green/teal works so well with the gold details and Gwen’s orange hair though.

We all know I love a cover with cartoon-style characters and these ones are beautiful.

Synopsis: It’s been hundreds of years since King Arthur’s reign. His descendant, Arthur, a future Lord and general gadabout, has been betrothed to Gwendoline, the quick-witted, short-tempered princess of England, since birth. The only thing they can agree on is that they despise each other.

They’re forced to spend the summer together at Camelot in the run-up to their nuptials, and within 24 hours, Gwen has discovered Arthur kissing a boy, and Arthur has gone digging for Gwen’s childhood diary and found confessions about her crush on the kingdom’s only lady knight, Bridget Leclair.

Realizing they might make better allies than enemies, Gwen and Art make a reluctant pact to cover for each other, and as things heat up at the annual royal tournament, Gwen is swept off her feet by her knight, and Arthur takes an interest in Gwen’s royal brother.
