It wouldn’t be blogmas without me talking about my favourite festive romance covers from the previous year. Although, sadly, there wasn’t a huge selection of great ones to choose from. Spoiler for next year’s post, there are too many beautiful covers for me to choose from. But that’s a problem for next year.
Countdown to Christmas by Jo Thomas
I can’t quite explain it but there’s something seriously nostalgic about this cover. It’s probably the colour scheme and art style but it’s so comforting and warm. Which is funny to say if you’ve read this book. It’s hardly comforting and warm but this isn’t a review of the story, this post is all about the cover.
I’m such a huge fan of the hand painted style for book covers, especially festive romances. I feel like they really convey the warmth of the season.
Synopsis: Chloe can’t wait for Christmas . . . to be over! Her son Ruben is staying with his dad this year and Chloe is planning to ignore the holidays all together. Her only nod to the season is the advent calendar Ruben left her, to help count down the days till he’s home again.
But then an heir hunter gets in touch, telling her there’s a plot of land in Canada she may be entitled to. Surely, it’s a scam. Or could it be just the escape she needs right now? They’re offering to pay for her flights . . . and Ruben’s latest note in the advent calendar tells her to ‘say yes!’
Suddenly, Chloe’s new countdown to Christmas involves a log cabin in the middle of a snowy forest, a community that’s worried for its future, a gruff lumberjack who gives her butterflies and a lot of pancakes with maple syrup . . .
This Christmas is full of surprises!
The Christmas Swap by Talia Samuels
I’m sad to say I was scorned by this beautiful cover. I had such high hopes for this book but it wasn’t as great as expected. Anyway, at least the cover is great. I love the bright colours and the fact that this has the characters. Which sounds silly, but festive romances don’t often have the characters on the cover. At least they didn’t in 2023. I feel like most of the festive romances I’ve come across this year actually have the characters on the cover.
Synopsis: It’s the perfect Christmas love story.
Margot Murray is a newly single, high-flying businesswoman with no interest in a cutesy seasonal romance.
Ben Gibson is an unlucky-in-love sweetheart in need of a woman to bring home for the holidays.
Together, they make a pact: Margot gets two blissful weeks away from London in a picture-perfect manor, in exchange for posing as Ben’s girlfriend.
The story can only go one way. Margot is sure to fall in love for real.
And she does.
With Ben’s sister, Ellie.
