The Best Of: Graphic Novel Covers #10

The Tea Dragon Society by Kay O’Neill

To this day, The Tea Dragon Society is one of the most beautiful graphic novels I have ever read. I love that what you see on the cover is what you get inside. Every single page of this graphic novel is breathtaking, but this post isn’t about the insides, it’s about the outside because I continue to be completely shallow when it comes to books and graphic novels – which you can excuse more with graphic novels as the art style is such a huge part of them.

The painted/water colour style of this cover is what instantly captured my attention. I thought for sure that the content wouldn’t look similar as I’ve been burned by an interesting graphic novel cover in the past, but thankfully, that wasn’t the case.

I’m not usually a huge fan of very green covers but firstly, it makes sense here as they’re sat on grass, and secondly, the rest of the colour palette is such stunning. Even though it’s pretty muted and i’ve talked about loving bold colours in the past, I think it’s just so beautiful.

A part of me wishes I could erase my memory of this entire series so I can see the art style for the first time again.

Synopsis: After discovering a lost tea dragon in the marketplace, Greta learns about the dying art form of tea dragon care-taking from the kind tea shop owners, Hesekiel and Erik. As she befriends them and their shy ward, Minette, Greta sees how the craft enriches their lives—and eventually her own.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa

I love this cover so much that I actually own it on a T-shirt. Weirdly though I don’t like the art style of this graphic novel very much. My main issue is that the teenagers all look about 40, especially Harvey. It would have been amazing if the graphic novel had the same art style as the opening sequence for the show. They are quite similar but it’s just nicer somehow.

What’s strange about this cover though is the fact that it says ‘No. 2’ on it, but it’s the official cover for the first omnibus volume of the series. Sometimes I will need to grab a cover from Google if I no longer have a copy (I read a lot of graphic novels with Kindle Unlimited but I specifically remember not doing so for this one). Anyway, the spooky vibes are off the charts with this cover and it encapsulates the vibe of the show so well – which is weirdly a massive comfort watch for me. I’m actually named after the original Sabrina the Teenage Witch actress so I’ve always had a connection to the character. Would have been a lot cooler to be called Sabrina though,

Synopsis: On the eve of her sixteenth birthday, the young sorceress Sabrina Spellman finds herself at a crossroads, having to choose between an unearthly destiny and her mortal boyfriend, Harvey. But a foe from her family’s past has arrived in Greendale, Madame Satan, and she has her own deadly agenda.
