Graphic novels have become a big part of my life lately and I’ve found myself reading more and more of them in the last few years. I have Kindle Unlimited to thank for most of that, but also I’ve started a small collection of physical graphic novels – I can’t let myself get carried away with them because, let’s be honest, they’re expensive.
Critical Role: The Mighty Nein Origins: Jester Lavorre by Sam Maggs & Hunter Severn Bonyun

The entirety of this graphic novel is gorgeous, not just the cover. The bold and bright art style suits Jester’s character so well. Speaking of her character, her design and personality lends so well to this art form. She’s so expressive, fun and all round cool.
What’s also cool about this graphic novel is you get to see all of the cover designs they had to choose from. They’re all great, but the final one is just so beautiful. The colours are so eye-catching and it looks amazing on my bookshelf.
Synopsis: Jester Lavorre had an unconventional upbringing, even for one born in cosmopolitan Nicodranas. Daughter of the famed Ruby of the Sea, she had many opportunities for mischief as a small child, of which she took full advantage! Dive into the mystery of Jester’s early years, her first meeting with the Traveler, and the fateful events that set her on a path to eventually join the Mighty Nein.
Heartstopper: Volume Three by Alice Oseman

This is my favourite cover of the entire series. Probably because it’s my favourite instalment but also because I love the colours. Yellow and green is not a combination I usually like but the pop of red makes it work for some reason. I also love how fresh and summery it feels – which is weird because summer isn’t my favourite season.
Synopsis: In this volume we’ll see the Heartstopper gang go on a school trip to Paris! Not only are Nick and Charlie navigating a new city, but also telling more people about their relationship AND learning more about the challenges each other are facing in private…
Meanwhile Tao and Elle will face their feelings for each other, Tara and Darcy share more about their relationship origin story, and the teachers supervising the trip seem… rather close…?
