The Best Of: Kindle Unlimited & Prime Reading #13

It feels very fitting that the 13th post of this series is posted during October and has two witchy reads. This wasn’t entirely planned but I do like that it’s happened. This post is also a graphic novel special as there are actually some decent ones available through both services.

Doughnuts and Doom by Balazs Lorinczi

This is such a sweet graphic novel and the art style is out standing. It has a wonderful colour palette and there’s a lot of character in the design of everything – especially the pet snake, it’s adorable.

It’s a very low stakes story that’s perfect to read on a chilled out Sunday with a cup of tea. I’d highly recommend checking this out.

Synopsis: Being a teenage witchโ€”or rock starโ€”is tougher than it looks! But maybe enemies can become friendsโ€ฆor more? Flying brooms and electric guitars set hearts aflame in this fantastically fizzy graphic novel.

When Margot meets Elena, emotions run high, magic is in the air, and doughnutsโ€ฆfloat? One is a stressed-out witch trying to get her potions business off the ground, the other is a struggling rock musician whose band is going nowhere. Neither of them are having a good time! No wonder things quickly escalate from words to literal sparks flying when they first meet. Could this be the start of a delicious new relationshipโ€ฆor is a bad-luck curse leading them to certain doom?

Mooncakes by Suzanne Walker & Wendy Xu

I donโ€™t often include graphic novels in this series, but Mooncakes is too cute not to. The art style is so lovely and the diverse cast of characters are great. I love anything to do with witchcraft and baking, especially graphic novels. Trust me when I say this is super cute.

Synopsis: A story of love and demons, family and witchcraft.

Nova Huang knows more about magic than your average teen witch. She works at her grandmothers’ bookshop, where she helps them loan out spell books and investigate any supernatural occurrences in their New England town.

One fateful night, she follows reports of a white wolf into the woods, and she comes across the unexpected: her childhood crush, Tam Lang, battling a horse demon in the woods. As a werewolf, Tam has been wandering from place to place for years, unable to call any town home.

Pursued by dark forces eager to claim the magic of wolves and out of options, Tam turns to Nova for help. Their latent feeling s are rekindled against the backdrop of witchcraft, untested magic, occult rituals, and family ties both new and old in this enchanting tale of self-discovery.
