The Best Of: Kindle Unlimited & Prime Reading #20

Better than the Movies by Lynn Painter

Will I ever stop banging on about this book? No, probably not. This is like the sixth post I’ve mentioned it in now and I love it so much. If you’re a big romcom fan, you will love this. The romance is so sweet and it’s one of my favourite friends to lovers books.

The sequel book almost ruined this for me, but I love it too much. I’m so excited for the adaptation. I never would have chosen the guy who plays Cam Cameron in The Summer I Turned Pretty to play Wes, but he’s actually the perfect casting – I think he’ll have a little Peter Kavinsky about him (weird to mention Jenny Han books twice in a post that has nothing to do with them).

Synopsis: Perpetual daydreamer Liz Buxbaum gave her heart to Michael a long time ago. But her cool, aloof forever crush never really saw her before he moved away. Now that he’s back in town, Liz will do whatever it takes to get on his radar – and maybe snag him as a prom date – even befriend Wes Bennet.

The annoyingly attractive next-door neighbor might seem like a prime candidate for romantic-comedy fantasies, but Wes has only been a pain in Liz’s butt since they were kids. Pranks involving frogs and decapitated lawn gnomes do not a potential boyfriend make. Yet, somehow, Wes and Michael are hitting it off, which means Wes is Liz’s in.

But as Liz and Wes scheme to get Liz noticed by Michael so she can have her magical prom moment, she’s shocked to discover that she likes being around Wes. And as they continue to grow closer, she must reexamine everything she thought she knew about love – and rethink her own ideas of what happily ever after should look like.

Air Awakens by Elise Kova

Air Awakens was the first book I downloaded with Kindle Unlimited way back in 2018. I’m actually doing a re-read of this right now, but the audiobook version. I have a deep love for this series, which is probably linked to the fact that it was the first I read on my Kindle, but I also just have so much love for fantasy books – even if I haven’t been reading them as much lately.

I’ve decided to re-read this series as I’ve never reviewed them. I read them a long time before I started this blog and I’d love to immortalise my feelings towards these books forever. God knows how long it will take me to get through the entire series but I’m enjoying my re-read of Air Awakens so far.

Synopsis: A library girl with a secret. A dark and fiery prince. When he awakens her magic, there’s no going back.

The Solaris Empire is one conquest away from uniting the continent, and the rare elemental magic sleeping in seventeen-year-old library apprentice Vhalla Yarl could shift the tides of war.

Vhalla has always been taught to fear the Tower of Sorcerers, a mysterious magic society, and has been happy in her quiet world of books. But after she unknowingly saves the life of one of the most powerful sorcerers of them all–the Crown Prince Aldrik–she finds herself enticed into his world. Now she must decide her future: Embrace her sorcery and leave the life she’s known, or eradicate her magic and remain as she’s always been. And with powerful forces lurking in the shadows, Vhalla’s indecision could cost her more than she ever imagined.

  1. Elise Kova is an author I’ve been wanting to try for ages! I feel like her books have been on my TBR for years 😂 Great to hear that Air Awakens was a hit for you although I totally commiserate about the price of indie books 😮‍💨
