This is my first and potentially last upcoming adaptations post of this year, unless I’ve forgotten about anything good, but honestly there aren’t many great books being adapted that I’ve actually read. At least none that are releasing this year.
If I had thought ahead about this post, I could have written it sooner and talked about Bridgerton season three. I haven’t read the books (yet) but I have watched the first half of the season and I’ve loved it so far. It has potential to be my favourite season. Friends to lovers is the best trope.
For that reason, I’m going to talk about a show that isn’t releasing until October–you can probably guess which one.
A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder – July 1st
We all know by now that this is one of my all time favourite book series, so you can probably guess how excited I am to watch it. I have high hopes that this will be good, especially as I love Emma Myers, but also because Holly Jackson worked very closely on it. Adaptations are always better when the author works on them.
Thankfully, there isn’t very long to wait for the show. I have no idea whether the season will be all released at once or if they’re going to do one episode a week. I like the idea of both, but weekly episodes would be a great way of building suspense.
Synopsis: Pip Fitz-Amobi, a brilliant woman, is unsure whether schoolgirl Andie Bell was killed by her lover Sal Singh five years ago. They must see how far they will go to protect Pip from learning the truth if Sal Singh turns out not to be the murderer.
Heartstopper season three – October 3rd
There’s still quite a while to wait for season three of Heartstopper but I’m still super excited about it. This season is going to be much more mature, dealing with heavier topics surrounding mental health–there was quite a focus on this already in season two, but if you’ve read the graphic novels, you know what is to come.
I’m planning to rewatch both seasons before the next one is realised. Surprisingly, I haven’t watched season two again since it was released.
Synopsis: Teens Charlie and Nick discover their unlikely friendship might be something more as they navigate school and young love in this coming-of-age series.
