To Be Watched: July 2025

The Summer I Turned Pretty – season 3

If this season doesn’t play out like the final book I will be livid. Season two was already a bit of a bust anyway so I hope my love for this show doesn’t start and end with season one. I’ve already complained about Jeremiah in a recent post talking about this show so I won’t be doing that again, but know that I hate him with a passion.

I’m feeling extremely apprehensive about this, but I’m going to push myself to watch it day one. No putting it off for months on end like I did season two, just rip off the bandaid and dive straight in. Fingers crossed it’s good.

Synopsis: It’s the end of her junior year of college, and Belly’s looking forward to another summer in Cousins with her soulmate, Jeremiah. Her future seems set, until some core-shaking events bring her first love Conrad back into her life. Now on the brink of adulthood, Belly finds herself at a crossroads and must decide which brother has her heart. Summer will never be the same…

Age of Umbra – Critical Role

I told myself I was going to watch this weekly as I’m actually pretty excited to learn more about Daggerheart. I haven’t watched any of the content they’ve released for the game yet so I have absolutely no idea how it’s played.

The style of this looks right up my street though. I love anything dark and potentially a little gothic. Which I’m not sure if this is but I’ve seen the character art and it is stunning. It’s also making me think I should really get around to watching Candela Obscura at some point – I love the soundtrack, just never got around to watching it.

Synopsis: Small communities hold fast against the darkness of a dying world in Age of Umbra, a dark, survival fantasy 8-part Daggerheart mini-series with Game Master Matthew Mercer and players Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, Liam O’Brien, Marisha Ray, Sam Riegel, Taliesin Jaffe, and Travis Willingham. Death lurks around every corner, but five characters of the small community of Desperloch must band together to fight for hope for their community, risking it all for those they love.

Campaign 2: The Mighty Nein

I watched exactly zero episodes of this during June, even though I said I’d be bingeing the hell out of it. Well, life got in the way a little bit so that didn’t happen. As much as I adore The Mighty Nein, I really have to be in the right mood to watch it and any content that requires a lot of focus. It’s not really something I like to have on in the background while I work so there’s not a ton of time for me to watch it. I do need to get properly into it again as I am paying for Beacon now. Which is still absolutely worth it as YouTube ads drive me a little insane with this type of content and YouTube Premium is way too expensive.

Synopsis: Set in the magical world of Exandria, on the continent of Wildemount, Critical Role’s Mighty Nein campaign is the story of a group of motley and chaotic adventurers who find themselves caught in the middle of a war between two nations.
