What I Watched: July 2025

Teen Wolf season one

I’m not sure what made me want to re-watch Teen Wolf but I’m having so much fun. I genuinely think it’s one of the best teen shows the CW ever made. Yes, it has its moments that make you cringe but that’s something all teen shows do.

Watching this again has taken me right back to my teen years. I was ridiculously obsessed with this show. It was pretty much my whole personality for a while, which is probably embarrassing to admit, but I don’t really care. It’s still great re-watching it in my mid 20s.

Synopsis: Scott McCall was just another kid in high school. Until, one night his best friend Stiles brings him to the woods, to look for a dead body, and Scott is bitten by a werewolf. Being a werewolf came with its perks- stronger, faster, new star in the lacrosse team, popularity- but also made it hard to control his anger. Scott has also fallen for the new girl in town, Allison, whose dad is trying to hunt and kill Scott.

Scott now has to try and balance his out of control life, figure out how to control his new powers, try not to be killed by the alpha that bit him, and protect Allison- and keep her from finding out his big secret.

The Summer I Turned Pretty season three

I’m already enjoying season three way more than the previous season. I think season two, much like book two, is just too sad. Unlike the book, the second season of the show was all over the place. I didn’t like the new characters and the new scenarios but I do understand why they were added.

I’ve only watched two episodes at the time of writing this post, but I am loving it. The subtle details relating to Belly and Conrad make me so happy. Don’t get me started on the crossword that hints that Conrad still loves Belly, ah it’s too much.

Hopefully my positive feelings towards this season continue. I won’t be happy if the ending is different from the book.

Synopsis: Throughout the series, Belly navigates a series of heartrending dilemmas and exhilarating highs, from clandestine midnight swims with Conrad to carefree beach days spent surfing alongside Jeremiah. As the sun sets on each day, Belly grapples with her evolving feelings and the complexities of her relationships with both brothers.

Age of Umbra

I haven’t finished the entire campaign yet but what I have seen so far has been really cool. I’m slowly learning the mechanics of Daggerheart and I actually love it. The hope and fear mechanic is really cool (take a shot each time I say ‘cool’) and the darker nature of this campaign is right up my street.

I’ll probably leave my thoughts on it there for this month as I’ll likely have a lot more to say about it once I’ve finished all eight episodes.

Synopsis: Small communities hold fast against the darkness of a dying world in Age of Umbra, a dark, survival fantasy 8-part Daggerheart mini-series with Game Master Matthew Mercer and players Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, Liam O’Brien, Marisha Ray, Sam Riegel, Taliesin Jaffe, and Travis Willingham. Death lurks around every corner, but five characters of the small community of Desperloch must band together to fight for hope for their community, risking it all for those they love.

The Mighty Nein

I finally managed to watch a few more episodes of The Mighty Nein during July. I really need Critical Role to get on with the Beacon app for consoles as I’m only able to watch it on my iPad or laptop at the moment and as someone that loves watching stuff on a TV, it’s a little inconvenient. I hate having to HDMI my laptop to my TV as it’s quite old so I can’t use it at the same time. Anyway, as soon as the app is available, I know I’ll start flying through episodes.

Synopsis: Synopsis: Set in the magical world of Exandria, on the continent of Wildemount, Critical Role’s Mighty Nein campaign is the story of a group of motley and chaotic adventurers who find themselves caught in the middle of a war between two nations.

Five Nights at Freddy’s

I finally got around to watching Five Nights at Freddy’s and I’m honestly very disappointed in it. Not that I really expected much as, let’s be honest, the stories in the games are great but this was all over the place. The one redeeming quality was that Josh Hutcherson is in it and apparently that teenage crush I thought I was over is still in full swing. He is ageing like a fine wine.

I wasn’t really expecting this to be scary but I thought it would at least have a few jumpscares like the games. But there were literally zero scary moments. I do think the animatronics looked pretty good though, I’ll give them that one compliment.

Synopsis: In the year 2000, a desperate young man takes a job at an infamous, long-abandoned pizzeria with a dark past, bringing his little sister along. As they uncover the restless spirits and vengeful animatronics within, they must confront their own haunting memories. With the help of an enigmatic police officer, they battle to save their souls and unravel the sinister secrets lurking at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza.

KPop Demon Hunters

Just like everyone else in the world, I watched KPop Demon Hunters in July, and I absolutely loved it. Not only was the music incredible, but the story was so much better than I thought it would be. I was not expecting such a deeply emotional story from a film with this title, but it was honestly so good – definitely something I will rewatch in the future.

Synopsis: A world-renowned K-Pop girl group, as they balance their lives in the spotlight with their secret identities as bad-ass demon hunters, set against a colorful backdrop of fashion, food, style and the most popular music movement of this generation.

Lisa Frankenstein

I’ve wanted to watch this ever since it was announced and it was finally available on streaming (for me) last month. I’m not sure what I expected this to be, but it was not what I got. Saying that though, I did really enjoy it. The best way to describe it would be ‘modern cult classic’.

The aesthetic of this film was incredible. I love overly stylised films and the 80s vibes were on point. Kathryn Newton looked so good, she plays an unhinged character very well.

Synopsis: A coming of RAGE love story about a teenager and her crush, who happens to be a corpse. After a set of horrific circumstances bring him back to life, the two embark on a journey to find love, happiness – and a few missing body parts.
