In the spirit of Halloween, I spent most of October watching horror films or shows about vampires. This is something I do all year round but it feels more fun in October.
Scream
As someone that loves horror, it’s actually crazy that I’ve watched Scream for the first time at the ripe age of 28. I never wanted to watch it as a teen as I wasn’t as into horror then and I thought it was really scary – I’m now massively laughing at myself as this film isn’t even slightly scary. It’s also not something I could see myself watching again, unless it was with someone else that really wanted to watch it.
It’s pretty good but as I’d waited so long, I knew who Ghostface was and that takes away a lot of the tension. I do love a slasher flick though. They’re super fun and are something I can get my partner to watch with me (he doesn’t like horror very much).
Synopsis: In the small town of Woodsboro, California, a masked killer known as Ghostface begins murdering high school students, and a group of friends must use their knowledge of horror movies to unmask the killer.
Weapons
I decided to watch Weapons as so many people were talking about how incredible it is. I remember seeing the trailer for this and thinking it looked really interesting but I personally didn’t think it was very good.
I spent most of my time watching it feeling extremely bored, and I thought the only good thing about it was Austin Abrams. I know I’m in the minority with this opinion, but this film wasn’t for me. I think I was expecting more from it considering how popular it was. I’m hoping I won’t think the same when I finally get around to watching Resident Evil and Obsession.
Synopsis: School kids from the same class except one boy disappear late at night from their homes without a trace. The School authorities, the parents and the relatives are baffled and confused. The local police department carries out an investigation without any positive results. The lady class teacher is ostracized by the parents who feel she is to blame for the disappearance of the children. She along with a policeman friend tries to solve this mystery. Will she be successful?
Huge Marvel binge
Like a lot of people, my partner and I have been doing a big catch up before Avengers Doomsday. This binge started a while ago but we finished it just a few days ago, so it probably took us a couple of months. I haven’t written one of these posts in a while so I can’t remember what I watched and when.
In recent years, the only Marvel I’ve kept up to date with is anything Spiderman related, Daredevil and Agatha All Along. We tried watching Loki a while back but couldn’t get into it at the time – we’ve now watched the whole thing and we both think it’s one of the best things Marvel has ever produced.
We’ve now caught up with pretty much every single film (I don’t want to watch Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 as I’ve heard it has some fairly intense animal abuse and also Chris Pratt is way too annoying). My favourites of the ones we’ve watched have been The Marvels (anyone that didn’t like this doesn’t like fun), Thunderbolts and Multiverse of Madness (they could never make me hate you Wanda).
Now that we’re caught up, we’re going to go back and watch all of The Avengers and X-Men films – we’re both big X-Men fans but I don’t think my partner has seen all of the newer ones. I haven’t seen Dark Phoenix yet so that will be a new one for me.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
I’ve been having an absolute blast watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I haven’t seen it since I was a teenager and I forgot just how much I love it. This is a binge I started fairly late into October, but I’ve recently just started season two.
They really don’t make shows like this anymore do they? I love how many practical effects they use and even though it’s a little cringe at times, it holds up well. I’m sure I’ll be talking about Buffy again in a future ‘what I watched’ post, it will be interesting to see which season I am on by the end of November.
Synopsis: A young woman, destined to slay vampires, demons and other infernal creatures, deals with her life fighting evil, with the help of her friends.
