These posts are usually pretty similar every year but I’ve decided to include two completely new goals. I will be setting a page goal for 2025 but I haven’t decided what it will be yet. So instead I have what I think are more interesting goals, but still with the classic of the amount of books I want to read.
Read 100 books
I usually increase my goal every year but after having more than 10 DNF’s this year, my higher goal felt impossible at times. I’d love to say I’ll aim for less DNFs but you can never predict when they’re going to happen. I did definitely rely on graphic novels less this year…to begin with. It’s only really in the second half of the year that I started picking them up more.
Once again I want more than half of my reads to be more than 300 pages long, which is thankfully something I can track thanks to The StoryGraph. Something else I will be using the app for is tracking my DNFs. I’m not entirely ready to step away from Goodreads as I actually have friends and followers on it, but the fact that you can’t DNF books drives me crazy. That was a long winded way of saying my challenges won’t be identical on both apps next year.
I’m still feeling very intimidated by longer reads but I’m hoping to get ahead on reviews more for 2025. There are so many 400+ page books I want to read but have put them off down to lack of time.
Take part in the Goodreads reading challenges
This function is still in beta so I don’t know what will happen with it, but I’m definitely interested in it. I’ve completed 50% of the current challenges without even trying but those were just ‘read X amount of books’. The ones I’m most interested in are the themed ones. Currently there’s the ‘challenge faves’ which is reading one book from the Most Read list, ‘Fall vibes’ which I’m surprised I haven’t completed. The last one is ‘Choice Awards,’ which is any of the choice awards nominees. Annoyingly I have read a few of them but not in the allotted time.
Anyway, I love challenges like these that push me to discover new books and genres. I’m hoping they do more genre based ones as I’m not too adventurous when it comes to new genres. I’m very stuck in my ways.
More re-reads
I feel like this is a goal I set for myself often, but this is the first time I’ve done so officially. I’m always looking to revisit old favourites but can never find the time for whatever reason. Well, in 2025 I want to complete at least four re-reads. Which is one more than this year. I also want these to be full length books, not just graphic novels.
