Books, pages and hours
I have no idea what I want my book goal to be in 2026. It feels pointless to write yet another one of these posts just to say my goal is 100 books. Part of me is tempted to not bother setting a goal, especially as I’ve easily beat 100 books in 2025 (more on that in a future post). My goal will be more about reading longer books. I’m a sucker for a sub 300 page book, but it’s very easy to get stuck relying on these to make sure I have content. Well, I currently have reviews ready up until the end of February, so right now, I want to be reading longer books.
I will also be setting an audiobook hours goal again. Last year I only set 100 hours, but I’ve more than doubled that, so I think I’ll go with 250 hours in 2026. This goal will go out the window if I no longer have an Audible subscription though. No plans right now to cancel it, but you never know.
I’ve failed miserably with my page goal though. When I set my goal of 25,000 pages last year I didn’t have an hours goal yet. I think a solid goal of 20,000 pages is a good place to start. It’s easy to change these goals throughout the year, so I never feel particularly stressed if I’m not meeting them. It’s all just a bit of fun!
Limit myself to two ARCs a month
I’d say this is my biggest goal for 2026. I have an insanely long to be read on my Kindle and I feel like I’m never going to get through them if I keep accepting almost every single ARC I’m offered. I’ll always be grateful for how many ARCs I get sent every year, but I’m going to take a step back in 2026 โ this includes my ’12 books of Christmas’ series. That will look a little different in 2026. I’m no longer only reading books published within that year. Instead, I’m reading whatever festive books I want. Hopefully this means I won’t have as much of a miserable time as I did in 2025.
I don’t know if I talked about this much anywhere but I hated almost every single festive book I read. The ARCs are a little too risky, especially when I need to read so many. So for 2026 I’m not actively looking at ARCs to complete that series.
I’m currently sitting on three ARCs, two of which will be read this month. I don’t think I’ll include graphic novel ARCs in this limit as they’ve pretty quick to read and review.
Continue series I started a long time ago
I have a real issue of starting a book series, not wanting to finish it too quickly, and then forgetting about them for years. A great example of this is reading Legendborn in 2020 and I still haven’t read the second book yet despite owning it since it’s publication.
I also read A Curse So Dark and Lonely in 2022 and haven’t continued the series yet. Basically my goal for this year is to finish both of these series. Which may be wishful thinking based on my goals for previous years, but I’m confident I can do it. Having the books on my Kindle make me much more likely to pick them up as I can read them at any point during the day. I’m not a huge fan of reading in electric light os physical books always get pushed to the bottom of my to be read pile.
