*I was given a copy of Catch Your Death in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to Usborne and Ravena Guron for my copy of the book*
Synopsis:
When three girls are stranded at the grand Bramble Estate in the middle of a snowstorm, they stumble into a murder plot. Someone has poisoned wealthy Emily Vanforte in the middle of a family dinner – which means Devi, Lizzie and Jayne are trapped in the house with a killer and a mystery to solve.
With knives under floorboards, vanishing guns and secret passages in the walls, no one is safe and everyone is a suspect. But in a house of liars and corruption, will the girls save themselves…or learn to fit in?
Review:
Catch Your Death is an inventive murder mystery where every page leaves you guessing. I wouldn’t say I was massively gripped by the mystery, probably because it took me a little longer than I wanted to get through this, but it was a good read.
Firstly, the characters were all well rounded and very thought out. They all had little personality quirks and background details that played well into the final outcome. There’s a little breadcrumb of clues that feed into the plot twist (which isn’t a spoiler as all mysteries have a plot twist) and it was very clever.
I’m a huge fan of mysteries that have interesting formats and I loved the police interviews. They helped break up the long chapters whilst still providing important information.
I’m not going to mention any spoilers but I will say that I guessed where the book was going after the midway point. I’m not giving anything away by saying this is a case of an untrustworthy narrator, but not how you’d think. I was pleasantly surprised by the outcome and it was very interesting. Although, I’m not sure how well it worked because as I said at the beginning of this review, it took me a while to read, so I definitely forgot some of it.
I wouldn’t say this is a favourite mystery of mine, but it is quite good. You can’t really go wrong with a murder in a mansion. They are always creepy.
Apologies for the shorter length of this review, I never know what to say about mysteries without giving anything away. What I can say is, Catch Your Death is a good read and it’s fun trying to figure out what is going on.
