Synopsis:
Still Hung Up On You is a hilarious rom com about two people finding each other again one phone call at a time.
Hannah Gold never thought she’d speak to Ethan Reisner ever again. Getting dumped in high school will do that to you. But when she needs to find a beloved sweater in time for her parents’ 50th anniversary, she begins her search where she last saw it: Ethan’s childhood home.
She thought calling Ethan out of the blue would be the hardest part, but breaking fifteen years of silence was just the beginning. Why is Ethan being so friendly? And helpful? And funny? And is it possible for someone to be handsome over the phone?
As her feelings take her to unexpected places and her parents’ anniversary looms closer, Hannah will have to dig deep, find out what’s real, and decide exactly what she wants.
Review:
Still Hung Up On You has been my favourite Liz Maverick book so far. There’s something about dramatised audio novellas that take place over a phone call that I absolutely love. It’s probably the easy flow of dialogue and chemistry between the narrators. Which was off the charts. Having them reminisce about their teen relationship makes their chemistry so much more believable as you already have a foundation for the friendship that turns into romantic love.
I don’t want to spoil too much about the plot but there’s a lot of chaos in Still Hung Up On You considering its short length. This is a slight spoiler but Hannah has to break into Ethan’s house at one point and it’s hilarious from start to finish. I’m not going to tell you why and what actually happens but it’s so entertaining. The two and a half hours of this audiobook felt like 10 minutes.
The narrators did such a great job. Yes, they were often over the top and the whole book felt quite cheesy but I don’t pick up a romance because I want a serious book. This is also dramatised so the inflections are over the top. There aren’t descriptions to tell you how the characters are feeling, the narrators have to overact so the feeling is conveyed through sound alone.
I would genuinely recommend Still Hung Up On You, which isn’t something I say often for Audible Originals. It’s a really short read that is sure to put a smile on your face.
