Book Haul: January 2026

I’m setting myself a limit for how many books I’m allowed to buy each month. The back log on my Kindle is getting a little ridiculous and I still have unread books that I bought when I first got it. Some of the books I’m not particularly interested in anymore but there are hundreds for me to catch up on. My biggest goal in 2026 is to make a decent sized dent in this number.

A Steeping of Blood by Hafsah Faizal

Book one of this duology was stunning (I received an advanced copy of it). The last few chapters convinced me it was a five star read so you can imagine how badly I want to jump back into this world. Unfortunately, this won’t be a recent read as based on what I said in the introduction of this post, I have a lot of books to catch up on. Thankfully, I have a review of the first book to look back on when I decide to pick this up.

Synopsis: Arthie Casimir’s had her tea. Now she’s out for blood.

White Roaring is sharpening its fangs after the deadly night that left the city in shambles. The press are dead, the public is calling for justice, vampires are in danger, and amid the turmoil, the Ram announces a celebration.

Still reeling from the bloodshed, Arthie Casimir has no time to mourn anyone’s death, let alone her own. She has no time for love, either, even though it saved her life. As Arthie navigates new emotions and new allies, she must reassemble her scrambled crew and scrape together what little they have left to fight one last time—and she will need to face the ghosts of her past to do it.

In Ceylan.

After the jaw-dropping ending of #1 New York Times bestseller A Tempest of Tea, Hafsah Faizal crafts a deliciously twisty and seductive sequel that will leave readers breathless until the very last page.

Mate by Ali Hazelwood

Have I read Bride yet? No. Did I buy this book just because it’s Ali Hazelwood? Yes. She’s an instant buy author for me, I’m pretty sure I own all of her books now and I’ve only read four of them so far. Don’t make me pick a favourite though, I don’t think I could.

Bride is actually pretty high up on my read list as I’m so intrigued to read a paranormal book from Ali Hazelwood. I’m guessing this series has some shifter spiciness going on. I’ve only read one other book like it, so I’m not sure how into I am yet.

Synopsis: A Human hybrid and an Alpha Were claw against the bonds of fate in the highly anticipated companion novel to the New York Times bestselling Bride.

Serena Paris is orphaned, pack-less, and one of a kind. Coming forward as the first Human-Were hybrid was supposed to heal a centuries-long rift between species. Instead, it made her a target, prey to the ruthless political machinations between Weres, Vampyres, and Humans. With her enemies closing in on her, she has only one option left—if he’ll have her.

As Alpha of the Northwest pack, Koen Alexander commands obedience. His authority is so absolute, only a fool would threaten his mate. It doesn’t matter if Serena doesn’t reciprocate his feelings, nothing will stop him from keeping her safe.

But power-hungry Vampyres and Weres are not the only threats chasing Serena. Sooner or later, her past is bound to catch up with her—and Koen might be the only thing standing between her and total annihilation…

No Escape by M.A. Bennett

M.A. Bennett has become somewhat of a favourite author of mine. I loved the Young Gothic series/duology (I hope there are more books coming) and I’m glad to see they’re sticking with the gothic theme for this latest release. An escape room-esque thriller novel sounds right up my street. Plus, this is less than 300 pages so would be a good pick up if I’m in a slump.

Synopsis: This isn’t just a puzzle. It’s a lethal game of survive or die …

Estranged twins Mabel and Kai each receive an unexpected invitation to stay for a week at their grandfather’s Parisian chateau. Neither remember meeting their grandfather, and neither had any idea that he was still alive.

The author of a notoriously difficult puzzle book, their grandfather is bed bound and dying. His last wish? For Mabel and Kai to solve it. The unimaginable riches. The catch? They are trapped in the house until one of them wins … or dies trying.

Their only other hope for escape is a mysterious student who has been working for their grandfather and seems to have eyes for both twins. But the walls are closing in and the contest takes darker and darker turns towards the supernatural. In this deadly game, there can only be one winner.

Gilded by Marissa Meyer

I feel like it wouldn’t be a haul post without at least one retelling book. I’ve never read a Marissa Meyer book outside of The Lunar Chronicles, so this will be fun to pick up at some point. I definitely need to check out some new retellings soon as that’s one of my post series that I don’t have a ton of books to include.

Synopsis: Long ago cursed by the god of lies, a poor miller’s daughter has developed a talent for spinning stories that are fantastical and spellbinding and entirely untrue.

Or so everyone believes.

When one of Serilda’s outlandish tales draws the attention of the sinister Erlking and his undead hunters, she finds herself swept away into a grim world where ghouls and phantoms prowl the earth and hollow-eyed ravens track her every move. The king orders Serilda to complete the impossible task of spinning straw into gold, or be killed for telling falsehoods. In her desperation, Serilda unwittingly summons a mysterious boy to her aid. He agrees to help her… for a price.

Soon Serilda realizes that there is more than one secret hidden in the castle walls, including an ancient curse that must be broken if she hopes to end the tyranny of the king and his wild hunt forever.
