When it comes to writing these posts, I usually have to choose my favourite buys of the month, but not this month. These are the only books I’ve bought this month as the Kindle deals have been disappointing to say the least.
The Borrow a Boyfriend Club by Page Powars
This sounds SO fun. I love when books have quirky plots and this one sounds right up my street. Also, the cover is so good. I don’t have a photo of it yet, but trust me, it’s great.
Synopsis: Noah Byrd is the perfect boy. At least, that’s what he needs to convince his new classmates of to prove his gender. His plan? Join the school’s illustrious (and secret) Borrow a Boyfriend Club, whose members rent themselves out for dates. Once he’s accepted among the bros, the “slip-ups” end.
But Noah’s interview is a flop. Desperate, he strikes a deal with the club’s prickly but attractive president, Asher. Noah will help them win an annual talent show—and in return, he’ll get a second shot to demonstrate his boyfriend skills in a series of tests that include romancing Asher himself.
If Noah can’t bring home the win, his best chance to prove that he’s man enough is gone. Yet even if he succeeds, he still loses . . . because the most important rule of the Borrow a Boyfriend Club is simple: no real boyfriends (or girlfriends) allowed.
And as long as the club remains standing as high as Asher’s man bun, Noah and Asher can never explore their growing feelings for one another.
Medea by Rosie Hewlett
We all know by now that I love a retelling and after reading the This Poison Heart series, I’m really interested in Medea’s story. I’ve heard pretty great things about Rosie Hewlett, so here’s to hoping this is a great read.
Synopsis: Medea longs for a different life. Since childhood, she has been separated from her sister, shunned by her mother, and persecuted and tormented by her brother and father. All because of a unique and dangerous witchcraft.
But when a dashing young hero, Jason, arrives to claim the famed Golden Fleece that her father fiercely protects, Medea sees her opportunity for escape. Her offer to help Jason overcome the trials set by her father sets in motion a journey that will test every ounce of her strength, magic and loyalty; a journey that will see her battle monsters, dethrone kings and fall in love.
But when faced with the ultimate betrayal, Medea is driven to an act of desperation so brutal it rips apart the lives of everyone involved…
The Mighty Nein Origins: Jester Lavorre by Sam Maggs, Laura Bailey & Matthew Mercer
I’ve officially begun collecting The Might Nein Origins and of course I had to start with Jester. She’s one of my favourite characters in the entire Critical Role roster and I can’t tell you how excited I am for the animated show.
I actually didn’t buy this for myself, my boyfriend got me it for our eight year anniversary. I’m not sure when I’ll get around to reading it as I haven’t even taken a photo of it yet, but it will definitely be this year!
Synopsis: Jester Lavorre had an unconventional upbringing, even for one born in cosmopolitan Nicodranas. Daughter of the famed Ruby of the Sea, she had many opportunities for mischief as a small child, of which she took full advantage! Dive into the mystery of Jester’s early years, her first meeting with the Traveler, and the fateful events that set her on a path to eventually join the Mighty Nein.
