Book Haul: October 2025

Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros

Seeing this book on sale for 99p has pushed me to finally see what all the fuss is about. I have no idea when I’ll actually pick it up as a 650 page book is really intimidating for someone that doesn’t just read for fun.

I’m so intrigued to see if this is actually good. People seem to either love it or hate it. I will try to go into it with zero expectations though. Sometimes I feel like people will say a book is great just because it has smut. I don’t think there’s a ton in this series though, just a bit.

Synopsis: Enter the brutal and elite world of a war college for dragon riders.

Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders.

But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away…because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans; they incinerate them. With fewer dragons willing to bond than cadets, most would kill Violet to better their chances of success. The rest would kill her just for being her mother’s daughter—like Xaden Riorson, the most powerful and ruthless wingleader in the Riders Quadrant. She’ll need every edge her wits can give her just to see the next sunrise.

Yet with every day that passes, the war outside grows deadlier; the kingdom’s protective wards are failing; and the death toll continues to rise. Even worse, Violet begins to suspect leadership is hiding a terrible secret.

The Duke and I by Julia Quinn

I’ve also finally caved and bought (most of) the Brigerton series. I adore the show, but I’m going to try to go into the books with no expectations. I haven’t read a lot of regency romances but I have enjoyed the ones I have. I love that most of these are pretty trope heavy as I am the type of reader that picks up a romance book because of its trope. Sue me.

Synopsis: Can there be any greater challenge to London’s Ambitious Mamas than an unmarried duke?—Lady Whistledown’s Society Papers, April 1813

By all accounts, Simon Basset is on the verge of proposing to his best friend’s sister—the lovely and almost-on-the-shelf—Daphne Bridgerton. But the two of them know the truth—it’s all an elaborate ruse to keep Simon free from marriage-minded society mothers. And as for Daphne, surely she will attract some worthy suitors now that it seems a duke has declared her desirable.

But as Daphne waltzes across ballroom after ballroom with Simon, it’s hard to remember that their courtship is a sham. Maybe it’s his devilish smile, certainly it’s the way his eyes seem to burn every time he looks at her . . . but somehow Daphne is falling for the dashing duke . . . for real! And now she must do the impossible and convince the handsome rogue that their clever little scheme deserves a slight alteration, and that nothing makes quite as much sense as falling in love.

The Bridge Kingdom by Danielle L. Jensen

Danielle L. Jensen is an author that pops up for me all the time. I’m constantly being recommended her books on Goodreads and my Kindle so I’ve finally bit the bullet and bought one of her books.

I don’t have photos of any of the books in this post yet, but this cover is absolutely gorgeous. I think the series had its covers updated recently and they are all seriously beautiful. Expect to see these books popping up in my beautiful covers posts at some point.

Synopsis: A warrior princess trained in isolation, Lara is driven by two certainties. The first is that King Aren of the Bridge Kingdom is her enemy. And the second is that she’ll be the one to bring him to his knees.

The only route through a storm-ravaged world, the Bridge Kingdom enriches itself and deprives its rivals, including Lara’s homeland. So when she’s sent as a bride under the guise of peace, Lara is prepared to do whatever it takes to fracture its impenetrable defenses. And the defenses of its king.

Yet as she infiltrates her new home and gains a deeper understanding of the war to possess the bridge, Lara begins to question whether she’s the hero or the villain. And as her feelings for Aren transform from frosty hostility to fierce passion, Lara must choose which kingdom she’ll save . . . and which kingdom she’ll destroy.

Loathe To Love You by Ali Hazelwood

My Ali Hazelwood collection is almost complete, I just need to buy Mate and then it’s done. Please put it on sale, I’m not paying £6 for an ebook. Am I the only person that is extremely frugal when it comes to ebooks? I refuse to pay more than £2.99.

I’ve just read one of Ali Hazelwood’s novellas and I seriously love her books. I’ve been in the worst slump of my life and this novella (Hot for Slayer) has made me excited to read again. Say what you want about her books, but I love them.

Synopsis: From the New York Times bestselling author of The Love Hypothesis comes a collection of steamy, STEMinist novellas featuring a trio of engineers and their loves in loathing—with a special bonus chapter!

Under One Roof

An environmental engineer discovers that scientists should never cohabitate when she finds herself stuck with the roommate from hell—a detestable big-oil lawyer who won’t leave the thermostat alone.

Stuck with You

A civil engineer and her nemesis take their rivalry—and love—to the next level when they get stuck in a New York elevator.

Below Zero

A NASA aerospace engineer’s frozen heart melts as she lies injured and stranded at a remote Arctic research station and the only person willing to undertake the dangerous rescue mission is her longtime rival.
