Book Review: Honeybloods by I.S. Belle

Synopsis:

Queen bee Honey Williams and burnout Sadie Greer haven’t spoken since middle school, when a huge fight ended their lifelong friendship and sent the girls down wildly different paths.

All of this changes when Honey turns up at 3am to ask Sadie to help her bury a body and kill the indie band that turned her into a vampire.

It’s the tail end of summer vacation. They’ve got the band’s tour dates, a full tank of gas and two weeks before senior year starts.

But Honey’s newfound hunger is insatiable, and the road trip gets even gorier than they anticipated. Despite all the bloody motel rooms and near-misses with murder, Sadie and Honey grow reluctantly close for the first time since they were kids.

But every road ends, and Honey’s bloodlust isn’t the only thing threatening to destroy their healing friendshipโ€ฆ

Review:

The cover of Honeybloods is what first caught my attention, Iโ€™m a sucker for books with illustrated covers like this. I know some people really dislike cartoon style covers, but I love them. It was one of the first recommendations that popped up when I got Kindle Unlimited again and I instantly wanted to read it.

Surprisingly even though Honeybloods is a short book thereโ€™s a lot of content. I didnโ€™t really know what to expect as Iโ€™ve never even heard of this author before, but Honeybloods is a highly entertaining read. I worried the pacing would be too fast or there would be little to plot, but a lot happens and thereโ€™s plenty of action.

Both Honey and Sadie were interesting characters and they felt fairly fleshed out. You get to learn a lot about their friendship when they were younger, how they grew apart and who they are today. Iโ€™m genuinely impressed at how the author made them both so likeable in such a short amount of time.

The vampire lore of Honeybloods is both interesting and hilarious. The Twilight references were great, especially everyoneโ€™s favourite quote โ€œHold tight spidermonkeyโ€. I liked how the vampires of this book drew inspiration from modern media and older folklore. It brought a fun new twist to vampires as we know them and has made me want to continue reading the series to find out what else they are able to do.

Iโ€™ll probably make my way through this entire series over the next couple of months as all three books are available through Kindle Unlimited and theyโ€™re also pretty short. Donโ€™t let that put you off though, Honeybloods is a highly entertaining read.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

  1. I completely agree with you – the cover is what got me too!! I just reviewed this myself. The cover sucked me in – I’m a known cover ‘ho and proud of it. (chuckle). I’m about to start the third book. The author posted that they are thinking of writing a new series with a whole scooby gang of paranormals – if the covers are anything like this…plus the snarky storylines – I’m so there for it.
