Synopsis:
She’s about to make a deal with the college bad boy . . .
Hannah Wells has finally found someone who turns her on. But while she might be confident in every other area of her life, she’s carting around a full set of baggage when it comes to sex and seduction. If she wants to get her crush’s attention, she’ll have to step out of her comfort zone and make him take notice . . . even if it means tutoring the annoying, childish, cocky captain of the hockey team in exchange for a pretend date
. . . and it’s going to be oh so good
All Garrett Graham has ever wanted is to play professional hockey after graduation, but his plummeting GPA is threatening everything he’s worked so hard for. If helping a sarcastic brunette make another guy jealous will help him secure his position on the team, he’s all for it. But when one unexpected kiss leads to the wildest sex of both their lives, it doesn’t take long for Garrett to realize that pretend isn’t going to cut it.
Now he just has to convince Hannah that the man she wants looks a lot like him.
Review:
For the first 25% of The Deal I was convinced I wasn’t going to like it. I even mentioned it in my post talking about the TV show adaptation, which may be out by the time this review is posted.
I wasn’t having a great time with The Deal in the beginning but this line from Hannah about Garrett did genuinely make me laugh, “I’ve never met anyone who sleeps with so many pillows. Maybe he needs them to cradle his massive ego.” I feel bad for laughing at Garrett, especially because of how much I loved him by the end of the book, but Hannah’s sass was brilliant. I love it when a female character isn’t dazzled by the male player’s charm.
“It’s not my fault you eat like a bird, Wellsy.” This may seem like a weird part of the book to highlight but I have a good reason. I bought a loaf of seeded bread once and now my boyfriend calls me a budgie, this reminded me of that.
“So I hear you’re singing a duet with my girl,” Garrett adds. “I hope you’re not giving her any trouble. I’m not sure you know this, but my Han-Han has a bad habit of letting people walk all over her.” He arches one dark brow. “But you wouldn’t do that, right, Chazz?” What is it about the cocky love interest calling the person harassing their partner the wrong name that is both hilarious and a little bit attractive? I actually love it and I could just imagine the grin on Garrett’s face when he kept calling Cass the wrong name on purpose. Ugh, I can’t wait for the show.
This review is going to be extremely short because I’m an idiot that didn’t take notes while reading because I fell completely in love with the second half of this book. I think I read pretty much the whole second half in one sitting, even staying up late to finish it, which I never do anymore – I’m a tired girl.
Just know, I adored this book. I’m excited for the show, and I will be continuing the series at some point.
