Synopsis:
The Wrong Costar is a heart-warming high school rom-com with a relatable main character and a dreamy love interest, Teagan and Liam’s enemies-to-lovers story will make you laugh, cry and swoon — perfect for fans of Jenny Han and Kasie West.
An actor who shares equal importance in a play with another. Unless you’re Liam Black.
Teagan has one goal in to get out of the small town she grew up in and never look back. Acting is her passion, and she’s counting on her skills on stage to grant her a one-way ticket out of there. When she learns a talent scout will be attending their high school drama production, she knows she’s finally got a chance at making her dreams come true.
What she wasn’t counting on was Hollywood heartthrob and notorious bad-boy Liam Black gate crashing the show. Forced to join Teagan’s school to prepare for his next movie, everyone seems to be buzzing about his arrival — but for Teagan it spells disaster.
Liam’s got a bad reputation. He doesn’t take their play seriously. And, worst of all, he and Teagan can’t stand each other. Can they conjure up some chemistry on stage, or will this Hollywood hottie be too much for Teagan to handle?
Review:
I was hoping The Wrong Costar would be a fun and quick read. Sadly, that wasn’t the case. The book was entertaining but it took me way too long to finish and I’m not even sure why. I was enjoying it but every time I sat down to read it felt like I wasn’t making any progress. Which is ridiculous considering The Wrong Costar is less than 300 pages long. Annoyingly this has impacted my rating. I’d probably be giving this a 3.5 or 4 otherwise but I can’t give it more than 3 stars.
I love how easy these books are to read. Which I know contradicts my previous statement, but when I did get a chance to properly get into this book, it was pretty easy going. I’m not being rude when I say Alexndra Moody has a simplistic writing style. I actually love that about her books.
The ‘enemies to lovers’ aspect of The Wrong Costar wasn’t as good as the ‘childhood friends to lovers’ as the previous book, but I did think Teagan and Liam were very cute. I don’t read many ‘Hollywood romances’ but I have enjoyed most of the ones I have read.
Books about high school plays make me so happy and nostalgic. Yes, I was a theatre kid and I’m not ashamed to admit that. This wasn’t a musical though, that would have been even better. I do love the idea of Teagan holding her own when acting opposite a Hollywood actor though.
The character backgrounds felt a lot more fleshed out and mature compared to The Wrong Bachelor. Both Teagan and Liam have difficult relationships with their mothers and I love that they both got a satisfying ending. Well, you don’t know the full outcome of what happened with Teagan’s mom but she was getting the help she needed and Teagan finally got the parental love she deserved.
A lot of this story is very predictable but that’s what I enjoy about YA highschool romances. I picked this up because I wanted an easy read and that’s exactly what I got. Other than how long it took me to get through.
