Synopsis:
When Serena is kicked out of her flat, an offer from her friend, Taylor, to house sit for her while she and her husband go travelling could not be better timing. But unfortunately for Serena she’s not the only one to have received this offer…
Enter arrogant, messy (and annoyingly handsome) musician, and friend of Taylor’s husband. Living with him is far from ideal, especially when he claims the best room, has loud parties – and the least said about his kitchen manner the better…
There’s just one solution for Serena – drive him out of the house by being twice as difficult to live with than he is! But Ziggy knows Serena’s game and as war ensues between them, being forced together under one roof may result in some unexpected consequences…
Review:
I’m slowly coming to rely on Portia MacIntosh for a feel good romcom book. Your Place or Mine hasn’t been my favourite so far, but it was an entertaining and very quick read.
I think the fact that this was such an easy read is why I enjoyed it so much. I’ve been struggling with longer books at the moment, so this was exactly what I needed. It was pretty lighthearted and any conflict that did happen was fairly comedic.
The thing I’m most confused about with this book is how Serena has no money despite being paid a full wage at her previous job and paying no rent. Surely she should have some sort of savings. She says she has no possessions worth anything, so what did she spend her wages on every month? Including the notice period she’s currently being paid for.
This is a bit of a spoiler but the way the cheating plot line was handled was very strange. I get that Lacey may not have believed Serena but she could have easily set it up so she was in the same place as Lacey and Dean so she could reveal him as a cheater. The whole ‘I’m leaving clues so she can figure it out herself’ was very strange. It did make for some pretty funny scenes though.
I’m starting to notice that Portia MacIntosh loves to give her male love interests unusual names. Ziggy might be the worst one yet. He sounded exactly my type, I don’t really have one, but tall, with dark hair and tattoos and he plays the guitar–right up my street (if you know me in real life you’ll know just how true this is). Sadly, I couldn’t take him seriously because of his name.
I did enjoy the chemistry between Serena and Ziggy. I love some good old mean flirting and theirs was great. Especially at Ziggy’s gig. If you’ve read this you’ll know why. Without giving too much away, it’s the catalyst for their relationship. It’s also every young girl’s dream.
I don’t really have too much to say about Your Place or Mine as it was very much an averagely good book. Nothing too special but no glaring flaws either.
