Synopsis:
Everyone at Ryder High knows what it means to have a teal envelope taped to your locker on the first day of the month.
But when a teal envelope arrives to McKinnon’s house mid-December, it draws nothing but confusion.
Soon, she finds out everyone who participated in the Secret Admirer program over the last ten months also received a teal envelope.
But inside is not a letter. It’s a ticket.
All the chosen girls and their admirers have been invited to a New Year’s Eve masquerade party and encouraged to dress in couple’s costumes.
But who is putting on this party and why?
Will McKinnon and her friends finally get the answers they’ve been waiting for?
This is an extended series epilogue, and only meant to be read after all ten Love Notes books! Do not read if you have not finished the entire series.
Review:
My review of You’re Invited is going to be very short as there’s not much to talk about that won’t spoil the entire series.
The reason for the game starting is very sweet. I don’t want to give anything away in case you haven’t read any of this series yet, but it makes complete sense who is behind it. There’s actually a fairly big hint in Dear Marley.
There was one inconsistency that stood out to me, purely because this book was told from McKinnon’s perspective. I probably wouldn’ t have picked up on it otherwise. McKinnon says one of the neutral party guys is from a class in her junior year but I swear her book says she’s new to the school and is in junior year. The only reason why they’ve been revealed is because they’re seniors so they won’t be involved in the game anymore. I could be remembering wrong though, I did start this series two years ago.
This is the only reveal I will talk about as it doesn’t spoil the game, “So who was Guy B?” Emilia questioned, asking the thought on all of our minds. Tucker looked to Silas, who glanced at Todd, who nodded. Silas stared back at Tucker, having a silent conversation while we all held our breath and waited. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, Tucker turned toward Mya, a sheepish expression on his face. “Me,” he mumbled.” I can’t tell you how much this has actually irritated me. I thought it was strange that we didn’t get a reveal, even in the author’s note, but that makes sense now. This admission may have just made Dear Mya my least favourite book in the series.
I think You’re Invited was a lovely ending to the series but I’m not sure it needed to be an entirely separate book. It’s a great quick read, and finding out the inner workings of the game is really interesting, but now I’m wondering what series two of Love Notes is like. I think I’ll check them out at some point, potentially before I stop using Kindle Unlimited at the end of February. I’ve already read the synopses of the second set of books and I’m very disappointed that there doesn’t seem to be any girl admirers or girl x girl pairings.
