Review:

Iโ€™ve finally returned to the written world of Critical Role and Iโ€™m having a great time. There doesn’t feel like any disconnect between the campaign characters, the show characters and the graphic novel characters. Itโ€™s obvious a lot of love and work went into this series.

The art felt way more polished this time. I did like the illustrations in the first volume, but the small changes to the character designs were great. Vex and Vax werenโ€™t completely identical and the facial expressions were done so well. The range of emotion Olivia Samson was able to imbue into the characters was incredible. Hats off to her.

The settings and combat were particularly wonderful, the colourist did an amazing job. The first fight scene in particular had stunning colours and I loved the darker colour palette.

Hats off to the authors as well. I still stand by the fact that you could pick up this series without any previous knowledge of Vox Machina and would still understand what is going on and what these characters are up to. Obviously, as a Critical Role fan already, I get excited when things from the campaign are mentioned or when certain characters make their first appearances, but either way, this would be an enjoyable read for all.

I would like to finish the series before the end of the year, but that may not happen. I already own the next instalment, but I donโ€™t like posting reviews of series too close together. Maybe in November (if I remember).

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.
