Bringing this series back was not on my 2024 bingo card, but I feel like it’s finally time. I really fell out of love with all of my entertainment series and I dreaded writing them every month. However, as we get nearer to the colder months, I’m watching more TV so I actually have something to talk about.
Films
Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret
I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this film. After the reading the book and thinking it was ok because I wasn’t the intended audience, I didn’t know how much I’d enjoy this. So I put it on in the background while I worked on blog posts and basically ended up putting down my laptop and just sat and watched the film.
It’s a really good adaptation. From what I can remember, they included pretty much everything from the book. It may even be one of the most true to book adaptations I’ve ever watched.
Synopsis: Eleven-year-old Margaret moves from the city to the suburbs and starts to contemplate everything about life, friendship and adolescence. She relies on her mother, Barbara, who offers loving support, and her grandmother, Sylvia.
The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants
You may be surprised to hear that this was my first time watching this film. I feel like this wasn’t too popular in the UK when I was younger because I didn’t even know till last year that Blake Lively, America Ferrera and Alexis Bledel were in this. I’d definitely heard of it, but had no idea what it was about or who was in it.
Well, going into this film I expected it to be quite light hearted and whimsical and that is absolutely not what I got. This film is now going into the ‘I’ve seen this now and I will never watch it again’ category. It was a decent film but I have no desire to ever watch it again.
Synopsis: Four best girlfriends hatch a plan to stay connected with one another as their lives start off in different directions: they pass around a pair of secondhand jeans that fits each of their bodies perfectly.
TV shows
Gossip Girl
Every year I say I want to do a rewatch of Gossip Girl and I’ve finally committed to it in 2024. I’m currently on season two and I still really love this show. It does have it’s slightly questionable moments, but it did come out in the 2000s and we all know how much they loved a fat joke back then.
I definitely won’t finish rewatching the entire show before the end of the year, but I imagine I’ll get pretty far. It’s great to have on in the background while doing other stuff.
Synopsis: Narrated by a mysterious yet vicious blogger, this show follows a set of wealthy teenagers through their day to day scandalous lives as Manhattans Elite, and also how they betray each other for each other’s gain.
Pretty Little Liars: Summer School
This series is incredible, It really puts the original series to shame. The tension is built so well and the acting is ten times better. The fact that this doesn’t rely on terrible gags for comedy definitely helps with this. There’s definitely still some cringeworthy moments, but at the end of the day, this is a teen show.
I just really love a good slasher and both seasons of this show deliver on that. I’d highly recommend.
Synopsis: Twenty years ago, a series of tragic events almost ripped Millwood apart. Now, in the present day, a brand-new set of Little Liars finds themselves tormented by an unknown assailant.
