Mid-Year Wrap Up: 2024 Reading Goals Update

I can’t believe we’re over halfway through 2024 already. At the time of writing this post I am reading book 60 of the year, which is technically halfway through my goal, or is it? More on that below.

I feel like I made my goals quite broad this year. Maybe I need to come up with some really niche ones for 2025?

Read 110 books

Technically I am on track to complete this goal, but I have had seven DNFs this year. I’ve only included them towards my goal because Goodreads doesn’t have a ‘did not finish’ option. I have been updating my StoryGraph goal based on my DNF’s as I wanted to see how actually behind I am and it turns out not very. Despite not finishing seven books, I’m only one behind and that can be easily sorted by reading a graphic novel.

If I compare where I am this year compared to last year, I’m not doing as well. At the mid way point last year, I had finished 63 books, including audiobooks and graphic novels. However, my caveat for why I haven’t read as many is because I haven’t read any audiobooks (most of which last year were novellas) and I’ve been trying to space out graphic novels.

My monthly averages have been all over the place this year as I’ve picked up some really bad books that have affected my love for reading. I’ve never had so many DNFs before, I’ve had more in 2024 than I have in my entire life. I’m either picking up bad books or I’m far more analytical now. I think it’s a mix of both.

Read 38,000 pages

This goal has a bit a trickier to track because of the DNFs. I know StoryGraph allows you to DNF a book but then it wouldn’t match my Goodreads. Is it silly to use two tracking apps? Yes, but they offer me different things and I like that. I prefer the stats on StoryGraph but I’ve been using Goodreads since I was a teenager.

If I wasn’t so lazy, I’d calculate the exact amount of pages I’ve read, but I am lazy so that’s not happening. Maybe next year I’ll switch to just using StoryGraph.

Read more series

I’ve definitely made some headway with this goal, but it’s taking a while because I don’t want to read a series back to back. I feel like just reading and reviewing one series wouldn’t make good content, but maybe I’m wrong? I used to love chain reading an entire series so maybe I should give that a go again. I am worried I’ll get burnt out if I do this though.
I haven’t completed any series so far, but I have started quite a few. The reason why I set this goal was because of my Bingeworthy Book Series posts, which I was quickly running out of content for. Hopefully by the end of the year I’ll have a bunch of series to talk about.
