Read 100 books
As I’m writing this post a little early, I don’t know the exact amount of books I’ve read at the halfway point of the year, but currently I’m sitting at 62 books, including graphic novels, and three DNFs – which is much lower than last year’s 7 DNFs by this point. Honestly, I thought I’d had way more than three.
My percentage of books with less than 300 pages is higher than I’d like at 52%, but I’m determined to get this way lower before the end of the year. Plus, I’ve been reading a lot of longer audiobooks and these don’t count towards my pages. My audiobook length for listens over 8 hours is at 72%, so I’m not doing as bad as I thought.
I didn’t include any goals related to audiobooks for 2025 as I didn’t have an Audible subscription at the time. Since having one again I’ve listened to 18 audiobooks and I’m loving them.
Read 25,000 pages
Technically I didn’t talk about this one in my 2025 reading goals post, but I do set a page goal each year so why not talk about it today. I originally had this goal much higher but that was before I realised StoryGraph counts audiobook hours as a separate stat. However, my total pages of 11,589 is completely accurate as I’m now marking books as ‘did not finish’ on StoryGraph. My Goodreads total is completely wrong though, they really need to add DNFs and half star ratings while they’re at it.
Alongside 25,000 pages, which I’m very close to being on track with, I set a 100 hour audiobook goal which I’ve already surpassed. As someone that didn’t listen to audiobooks a lot, until this year, I didn’t know what was a decent hour goal to set. Apparently I was completely off. I’m currently at 162 hours so I probably needed to at least triple this goal.
More re-reads
I don’t know what possessed me to set this goal as there was no way I’d ever actually do it. We’re now halfway through the year and I’m yet to do a single re-read. I have so many unread books both on my physical shelves and my Kindle that I don’t have time to read books I’ve already read. Plus the second half of the year gets very ARC heavy for me as I prepare posts for December.
Obviously I can use these re-reads for content as a lot of the books I’d like to read again don’t have reviews yet. But these books are also either physical books, which take me longer to read, or are pretty long in general and we all know how I’ve been avoiding books over 400 pages recently.
Take part in the Goodreads reading challenges
At the start of the year I was actively trying to complete these challenges but then I realised I was either adding completely new books to my to be read just to take part or the books I was picking up were not great. So basically, I’ve stopped taking notice of these. They’re a great way to promote new books but as someone that has a large backlog to get through, I haven’t been taking a huge notice of new books recently.
Also, why was I trying so hard to get a digital bookmark that doesn’t mean anything? I’m pretty sure no one else can even see that you’ve got it, so what’s the point? If they made it so you could use them on your Kindle when you bookmark your page, that would be maybe worth it. But the two books I ‘read’ to get these bookmarks were both DNFs, so clearly these challenges are not for me.
