Organising My Goodreads #11

I’ve had the majority of these posts scheduled for the longest time and I’ve just run out. For once, this post has been written in the month it will be posted.

Broken Fate by Jennifer Derrick

This book was available for free when I first got my Kindle and at that time I didn’t read the synopsis as I just wanted any books to read. I’ve only just now realised it is based on Greek Mythology, which is the only reason why I’m going to keep this on my Goodreads.

Verdict: keep

Synopsis: Zeus gave her one simple job: Kill every human. Atropos—daughter of Zeus and the third goddess of Fate from Greek mythology — spends her eternal life snipping human lifelines when their mortal lives are over. As if being a killer doesn’t make life miserable enough, she and her Fate-wielding sisters must live amongst the humans on Earth thanks to a long-running feud between their mother and Zeus. Living on Earth means they must mingle with the mortals, attend the local high school, and attempt to fit in — or at least not stand out too much.

Killing and mingling don’t mix, which is why Atropos’ number-one rule is to avoid all relationships with the humans. Caring for the people she has to kill is a fast track to insanity. However, when Alex Morgan walks into her first-period English class, she knows she’s in for trouble. He’s the worst kind of human for her to like — one with a rapidly approaching expiration date. And he makes Atropos want to break all the rules.

Above the Star by Alexis Marie Chute

I know nothing about this book as it was another one I got for free when I first bought my Kindle. I’m not going to permanently delete it from my Kindle but I do doubt I’ll ever read it. For now it will be taken off my Goodreads.

Verdict: remove

Synopsis: When Archie goes in search of his missing son, Arden, in the Spanish Canary Islands, he stumbles upon a higher mission: to save his ailing fourteen-year-old granddaughter, Ella. Using a portal-jumping device called the Tillastrion, Archie and a strange creature, a Bangol named Zeno, are transported—along with a cruise ship full of people, including Ella and her mother, Tessa—to a magnificent yet terrifying island in another realm, a place called Jarr-Wya, where Archie hopes to locate Ella’s cure.

On Jarr-Wya, the Bangols battle the Olearons—creatures made of fire—and the evil Millia sands for control of Jarr-Wya. When Ella is captured by the Bangols, her wit and resourcefulness emerge as she fights against all odds, and against all manner of creatures, to survive. Meanwhile, Tessa, must confront her long-buried secrets, broken marriage, and a confusing new love triangle, all while navigating the mysterious island in search of her daughter. And unbeknownst to everyone, there is an even greater foe to contend with: a wicked star anchored in the sea beneath them that is poisoning the island.

The Rising by Terra Harmony

I was really obsessed with mermaid books as a teen and that’s really starting to show in these posts. I can’t even begin to tell you how many mermaid books are on my to be read shelf–most of which I’m never going to read, this one included.

Verdict: remove

Synopsis: Fifteen-year-old Serena is the youngest member of a dying race. The increasing acidity of the ocean is destroying her home, slowly eating away at the once thriving underwater landscape. But since the night of Serena’s birth, it is an outside force that most threatens their dwindling population. Werewolves, who once served as protectors for mermaids in the Kingdom of the Undine, now seek to eliminate all who dwell in the ocean — and Serena is about to find herself right in the middle of the deadly conflict.

Given the title of Werewolf Liaison, Serena is determined to make things right for her people. When she ventures to The Dry, she meets Liam, the werewolf with hazel eyes, and her whole world gets turned upside down. As Serena discovers the real history between werewolves and mermaids, she is left wondering who her true enemies are.
