Best Character
Richard is iconic in this episode. I love the scene where he sees a woman he knows at the golf club and is really nice to her. However, when she leaves he calls her โthe most odious woman aliveโ.
You start to see the relationship between him and Rory grow and it’s very sweet.
Best Supporting/Obscure Character
The mother of the twin brides is such a mood. Sheโs so done with the wedding and her daughters being stuck up and whinging. I feel kind of bad for her but then I remember sheโs their mother so itโs potentially her fault.
Her character changes entirely when the wedding is over. Sheโs happy (and possibly drunk) and you know I love that for her. Get rid of your bratty kids.
Favourite Scenes
Any scene in the first season with Sookie and Jackson in is absolute gold. I love their relationship dynamic.
When Rory is in the steam room at the club and she overhears two women gossiping. This is the exchange:
WOMAN #1: Last year, Christmas, he bought them both the same bracelet.
WOMAN #2: She should have just shot him like his first wife did.
WOMAN #1: Oh I love Janie. Is she out yet?
Itโs all so casual that I canโt help but laugh.
Best Quotes/Lines
EMILY: Mira does make a perfect cassoulet.
LORELAI: Who’s Mira?
EMILY: Our cook.
LORELAI: I thought the cook was Heidi.
EMILY: Oh, no, we let Heidi go months ago. She had a problem closing things — the door, the refrigerator —
RICHARD: The liquor bottle.
The funniest part about this whole exchange is not Richard interrupting (which is funny) but the fact that her name isnโt even Mira. Emily Gilmore is someone that I would absolutely hate in rel life, but I love her in the show. Sheโs lowkey the funniest character.
EMILY: You can use your mother’s old golf clubs. They’re upstairs gathering dust along with the rest of her potential.
LORELAI: OK, Mom, can I maybe talk to you for a minute?
EMILY: We’re having dessert.
LORELAI: I know but I’d like to talk to you fast before the sugar sets in and makes me crazy.
Emily Gilmore, you are an absolute savage and I love it. While I hate that Lorelaiโs parents are mean to her, I canโt help but laugh at Emilyโs wit. Lorelai and Emily are very similar but they never seem to notice. Like mother like daughter.
LORELAI: Rory, I love you. I would take a bullet for you. But I’d rather stick something sharp in my ear than go to the club with you.
RORY: Fine.
LORELAI: I’d rather slide down a bannister of razor blades and land in a pool of alcohol than go to the club with you.
RORY: I got it.
LORELAI: Don’t stop me, I’m on a roll. I’d rather eat my own hand than go to the club with you. Ooh, I’d rather get my face surgically altered to look like that lunatic rich lady with the lion head than go to the club with you.
RORY: Would you like me to drive so you can continue your diatribe?
LORELAI: Would ya? Thanks. I’d rather cut off my head and use it as a punch bowl than go to the club with you.
This is the longest โquoteโ Iโve ever mentioned, but I had to put it all in as itโs just too funny. The whole thing happens in about 15 seconds and the fast-paced dialogue is what I love most about Gilmore Girls.
Lorelai will always be the funniest character in the whole show.
LORELAI: Well, now, especially that the crack den is closed down on the corner all her really good friends are gone. What do you think, Mom, should I pursue the career in comedy?
Most interactions between Lorelai and Emily are funny but when they are discussing getting Rory a membership for the club itโs pure gold. This is the type of joke I used to make to my mom when sheโd tell me that as long as she knew where I was she didnโt mind what I was doing. I used to tell her I was just going down to the local crack den is that ok? She said yes, obviously.
When I say I will be Lorelai Gilmore when Iโm older Iโm never joking.
Most Iconic Outfit
Roryโs golfing outfit at first is very bland and forgettable but then Emily gives her that ridiculous red, yellow and green (I think itโs green) hat with the little bobble and suddenly itโs very funny.
Favourite Setting
The wedding area was beautiful. The purple ribbons and flowers everywhere are just stunning. I love the vibe of the Inn anyway as it always seems very cosy. But this set up was beautiful.
Best Musical Moment
As always there arenโt many musical moments in Gilmore Girls, but We Are Family by Sister Sledge plays at the wedding and thatโs a great song.
Thoughts/Opinions That Donโt Fit Into A Specific Category
At the beginning of the episode, they speak about Richardโs mother as if sheโs dead but she appears in later seasons.
I also love that Kirk still isnโt Kirk yet. Heโs just some random guy delivering swans for the wedding.
