Episode synopsis
S1 EP12 – The Landlord: Against Nick’s wishes, Jess makes it her mission to get the loft’s cantankerous landlord to like her. In doing so, she inadvertently jeopardizes their living situation and the guys are forced to admit they’ve made some “unofficial” changes to the apartment. Meanwhile, Schmidt tries to decipher what he thinks are mixed signals from his boss Kim.

There are so many great Nick moments in this episode. He is really protective over Jess and he also has the best lines.

Nick ‘fixing’ the sink will always be hilarious its pure aggression but also completely weird.
Any kind of scene where characters are scrambling to get something done is instantly funny. This is even funnier because who doesn’t freak out like this whenever their landlord visits?
Protective Nick is crazy attractive and my god I love him in this scene. I’ve always had a huge crush on Jake Johnson and seeing this moment again he really reignited it.

NICK: You out-crazied a man with a gun.
DELIVERY PERSON: I have a package for Schmidt.
SCHMIDT: Sir, I’m very flattered. But I must decline.
REMY: What do you want fixed?
NICK: Why don’t you close your eyes and point at something?
JESS: You always see the worst in people.
NICK: Yeah, because people are the worst.
JESS: Why didn’t you tell me four people couldn’t live in this apartment? If we’re gonna do a shenanigan, I’m fine with doing shenanigans. I love shenanigans, as long as no one gets hurt.
Final thoughts and fun facts
There are a lot of great Nick and Jess moments in this episode and how neither of them realises that they like each other yet is baffling.
Remy greets Nick and Winston as “Coach” and “Brad”. Brad is Damon Wayans Jr’s character name in Happy Endings (2011). This is the show he joined after filming the New Girl pilot.
