S1 EP14 – Bully: When Jess tries to intervene with a classroom bully she finds herself the target of the bad seed student. Schmidt, meanwhile, is thrilled over his post-Valentine’s sexcapades, but hates that his paramour wants to keep it a secret; and Nick goes into a tailspin when Julia sends him a cactus.

This episode is the birth of โBrown Lightningโ so of course Iโm giving this to Winston. I canโt remember how often the joke is brought up, but itโs very funny. Winston is highly underrated as one of the funniest characters.

I love any scenes where the core four are together. Winston being Theodore Mullins, Schmidtโs lover, is just too much.
I love the montage of Nick leaving Julia a voice mail as Jake Johnson is an excellent comedy actor, but I also hate Julia so I donโt want to find it funny.
Big up to Bea of YouTube who perfected described this moment and why it is so great. โThe cactus is Nick’s perception of himself and all his self-sabotage (like how he ruined things career-wise and with Julia, life in general) and Jess comes in with a real plant because that’s how she sees Nick: someone who is worth taking care of and is capable of so much more than he believes. and what’s more, she already knows that he’s just gonna kill it BUT she gives it anyway. She knows who he is (aka a plant killer) and she accepts that about him without judgement but she also just wants him to believe in himself the way she believes in him.โ

WINSTON: Okay, what kind of crazy person destroys a child’s robot?
JESS: Can you bring me, like, a bunch of Phillips head screwdrivers and, like, a Crescent wrench and, like, other tool things?
WINSTON: What if I’m busy?
JESS: [laughs] Thank you, Winston. I really needed that. It’s been a really hard week.
WINSTON: Your daughter sucks. Okay, she is a demon seed, she is the spawn of Satan. And I do believe I speak for the entire human race when I say that people like her should not be building robots.
JESS: You’re a plant killer and I write songs. We’re weirdos. But that’s who we are. And that’s fine.

I forgot that Joey King was in an episode of New Girl, she still looks exactly the same. That bob though, damn.
