The Best Of: Beautiful Book Covers #23

Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin

I’d be lying if I didn’t say the reason why I wanted to read this book in the first place was because of the cover. Well I also thought the title was pretty cool, but I think we can all agree this cover is stunning.

Colour wise this cover is very simple, however in this case it is a good thing. There is so much going on behind the title that this design just would not work with too many colours. The artist has also nailed the metallic gold. I’m not usually a huge fan of this, but it makes a lot of sense for this book if you’ve read it.

Also the snake, which if you continue reading this post seems to be a running theme, is the perfect compliment to the background as whilst still being eye-catching, does not take away from the overall beauty.

Synopsis: Bound as one to love, honour, or burn.

Two years ago, Louise le Blanc fled her coven and took shelter in the city of Cesarine, forsaking all magic and living off whatever she could steal. There, witches like Lou are hunted. They are feared. And they are burned.

Sworn to the Church as a Chasseur, Reid Diggory has lived his life by one principle: thou shalt not suffer a witch to live. His path was never meant to cross with Lou’s, but a wicked stunt forces them into an impossible union—holy matrimony.

The war between witches and Church is an ancient one, and Lou’s most dangerous enemies bring a fate worse than fire. Unable to ignore her growing feelings, yet powerless to change what she is, a choice must be made.

And love makes fools of us all.

It seems that snakes were a trend in the world of YA covers for a while and I actually loved it – you do see it pop up every now and again, but most covers seem to features the romantic pairing these days. In this instance, the iridescent scales add a pop of colour to what could have been an average cover. This paired with the redness of the berries makes this cover a stand out for me. I don’t think this is a particularly great photo to showcase this cover as it was taken a long time ago, back when I wasn’t as good at editing photos, but my camera is still kind of broken so I don’t have the ability to update this right now.

Synopsis: He will be destruction of the crown and the ruination of the throne.
