The Best Of: Books I’ve Rated Five Stars #4

It’s been so entertaining looking back at the books I’ve rated five stars. Teen me loved to give five stars to absolutely every book and in hindsight, that was ridiculous. I’ve sorted those out now, don’t worry they won’t be featured in this series.

The Cruel Prince by Holly Black

At the time of reading this, I never actually rated books and I definitely wasn’t reviewing everything. However, this is an easy five stars. I adore this entire series and how I wish I could erase it from my mind to experience it again for the first time, I would.

I’m so due a re-read of this, but I’ll definitely until at least next year.

Synopsis: Of course I want to be like them. They’re beautiful as blades forged in some divine fire. They will live forever.

And Cardan is even more beautiful than the rest. I hate him more than all the others. I hate him so much that sometimes when I look at him, I can hardly breathe.

Jude was seven when her parents were murdered and she and her two sisters were stolen away to live in the treacherous High Court of Faerie. Ten years later, Jude wants nothing more than to belong there, despite her mortality. But many of the fey despise humans. Especially Prince Cardan, the youngest and wickedest son of the High King.

To win a place at the Court, she must defy him–and face the consequences.

As Jude becomes more deeply embroiled in palace intrigues and deceptions, she discovers her own capacity for trickery and bloodshed. But as betrayal threatens to drown the Courts of Faerie in violence, Jude will need to risk her life in a dangerous alliance to save her sisters, and Faerie itself.

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

My absolute true love. This is another that I’d love to be erased from my memory so I can read it for the first time again. I think a lot of people will agree with me.

I’m not usually a fan of books with more than two perspectives but it works so well in Six of Crows.

I love this book so much that I actually don’t know how to put it into words.

Synopsis: Ketterdam: a bustling hub of international trade where anything can be had for the right price—and no one knows that better than criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker. Kaz is offered a chance at a deadly heist that could make him rich beyond his wildest dreams. But he can’t pull it off alone. . . .

A convict with a thirst for revenge

A sharpshooter who can’t walk away from a wager

A runaway with a privileged past

A spy known as the Wraith

A Heartrender using her magic to survive the slums

A thief with a gift for unlikely escapes

Six dangerous outcasts. One impossible heist. Kaz’s crew is the only thing that might stand between the world and destruction—if they don’t kill each other first.
