101 Dalmatians
I cannot explain to you just how much I love this film. Dogs are one of my favourite things in the entire world so watching a film dedicated to 101 of them is just the best. I don’t know if I’d be able to watch this now I’ve got a dog that can see the TV. He’s never tried to jump at the TV but with the amount of barking in this film, I don’t want to take my chances. I need to post a photo of my dog on here at some point as I talk about him all the time but you’ve never seen him.
I have a strangely vivid memory of watching this at nursery (I think I was about four maybe) when I was a kid and falling completely in love with it. This is probably one of the oldest films I’ll talk about and the fact that I remember it from such a young age is a little crazy.
I should probably say that I’m talking about the live action adaptation as I’ve not made that obvious yet. I do love the animation but the live action is so cosy and you can’t beat real dogs. They’re just too cute.
I constantly want to watch this film to the point where my boyfriend has put a ban on it for a while. We don’t even call it by its full name, it’s just known as ‘dalmatians’ on our house.
I don’t know what it is about this film that I love so much, probably the fact that it has so many dogs, but it is really cosy if you ask me. The huge nostalgia also helps. You wouldn’t think a film about a woman trying to kill puppies would be comforting but you know she doesn’t actually do it so it’s fine.
Synopsis: The dastardly Cruella De Vil chances upon a litter of cute dalmatian puppies and decides that their skins will make her the perfect new coat. After she sends two hapless heavies to steal the dogs, it is up to parents Pongo and Perdy to stage a daring rescue. Joining them for the adventure are their human `pets’ and host of guest animals including a cheeky raccoon and a helpful horse.
