Love, Rosie
Even though this is pretty sad at times I absolutely love this film. I watched it for the first time when I was around 16 and it’s been a favourite ever since. I try to watch it every couple of years or so and I’m due to rewatch soon. For the longest time it wasn’t available on any streaming services but I managed to track down the DVD. I haven’t used said DVD yet though.
Sam Claflin is the rom-com king though and I will die on that hill. Again with the worry of looking boy-crazed with how often I talk about how swoonworthy the male leads are in this post series, I am swooning over Sam Claflin just like every other male lead in most of the films I’ve talked about so far. To be honest, at this point in time I fancied Lily Collins a lot more. She was my biggest ‘girl crush’ back then. Weirdly Emily in Paris killed that crush, I like the show but her character makes me cringe so bad. I haven’t even watched the most recent season yet as I’ve heard she fumbles Gabriel and I can’t take it. Anyway, this post isn’t about Emily in Paris.
Childhood friends to lovers is one of my favourite tropes and this film does it beautifully. It’s probably my favourite films with this trope. You really go on a journey with Rosie and Alex and even though you feel frustrated that they never seem to be at the same place at the same time, sometimes literally, the wait is worth it. Honestly, this film may be both Sam Claflin and Lily Colins’ best performances (in my opinion, I haven’t seen everything they’re in). But it’s just such a beautiful story and they played the characters so well. I haven’t read the book though so maybe it’s actually an awful adaptation. Who know? Not me, I’ll never read it.
Synopsis: Rosie and Alex have been friends since childhood and cannot imagine themselves as a couple. However, when they head in different directions, they realise that they are made for each other.
